Great ideas from the Internet community.Follow

#1 Dec 10 2011 at 10:43 AM Rating: Decent
What I'd like to do is hear from anyone who has a good idea. Any idea that you think is good, that might help people, or may improve the condition of everyone in general, would be a great place to start. We will pick a good idea and do some research about the concept, then write a short article about it, and post it on the Internet.

This article will then be discussed, dissected, and refined in the forum it's posted.

The goal is to get good ideas that will actually help people and spread them around to the largest group of people in the world... the internet community.

I know that this may start off small, and it may have even already been done. But I think this can work. At the very least, it will be an interesting way to get some good ideas out to more people. It might cause some people to think about things in a way they never considered before.

I had a great idea once... but then I learned somebody else had already done it.

I had a great idea once, but then I posted it in a thread asking for great ideas from the internet, and somebody stole the patent out from under me.

The Cakepie! Is it a pie with a cake inside it, or a cake with a pie inside it? no one knows, either way, is delicious!

I'd prefer one that made Varus, thiefx and alma disappear.

I want another for gbaji. He still needs to go away, but it's not fair to put him with those 3.

With great buttons comes great responsibility. Sure, you can just obliterate everyone who ever annoys you, but eventually you end up alone in an empty forum. At which point I reccommend taking a nap, or maybe catching up on your novel reading or something. At any rate, you have to take a look at the situation and consider what things would be like with, or without a given poster. Some people are annoying. But some annoying people also give other less annoying people a focus for their venting. Others have promise and may learn someday. Still others are simply trolling and provide entertainment to others.

The Karma system is indeed working as intended. You yourself may not be able to move someone with a huge amount of posts, but we see those rates. people with all negative rates usually end up going away eventually one way or the other. when the rates go both ways, even if they are trending downwards we tend to leave someone in play unless they do something really bad.

But what would you do if they were gone? eliminate all the replies they made in threads. Eliminate all the replies people made to their replies, and the subthreads those replies sometimes generated. Eliminate the annoyance and angst and hatred their posts generate, and you eliminate a reason for some people to come back. Is their presence preventing people from coming to the forums in the first place? probably not on a large scale. Would removing them result in a drop? not a major one, but historically speaking, yes a statistically significant drop. Would I hesitate to remove them if i thought it in the best interest of the forum? not for a second. But it probably isn't at the moment. On the other hand, sometimes they know this, and they like to push the boundaries. Thats where we run into problems, when the trolls decide to call my bluff about something, and they discover what they already should have known about Admins and bluffing. Then it all ends in fire and radiation.
