The end of another Phase.Follow

So as life moves on. I've worked my way out of my past financial issues and things are looking up. Since last June when my chapter 7 bankruptcy went through I've lost the last of my past investments and started anew. I do feel the hurt of loosing close to 40k of my hard savings and land investments. But, I also lost the biggest boat anchor in my life. My common-law husband. I feel free and suddenly I have money to spend upon myself again. Things came that I so needed. New computer (Thanks for the help Kaolain) New monitor, new TV, and being able to eat out again. This past month I rebuilt my poor broken 5.1 surround sound system and had gotten a nice TV stand to hold it all. I've invested in my Vega to get it up and going. Now the next step is in the works. I've tolerated living in a beat up old trailer for more time than I wanted to. The only benefit was the dirt cheap rent. Of course the landlords never fixed anything. It was cold or hot depending upon the weather. I managed and worked hard on improving my living conditions. My Co-worker builds homes as a hobby and has a few rental homes. His plan was to have several as income when he retires from work. I've become good friends with him over the past three years and he is going to let me rent his first new rental home. It will double my rent but it's closer to work. On paved roads and in a nice quiet area of town. The home will be small (Approximately 1200sqft.) But its only me and my cats so it will be no issue. Later we plan to build a 2 car garage behind the home. I'm looking forward to improving my housing situation. It's one of the reasons I've been buying things like a TV and stuff for it. Now I'm looking at a new bedroom set for the home. Also a living room set. I lost most of that with my past couple of moves. I've shopped Rooms to GO and there are some nice sets in the one thousand to fifteen hundred range.

Here they are pouring the slab for the house.

Screenshot

One of the things we did discuss was wiring the home for Surround sound in three of the rooms. Living, Master Bedroom and Office. I'm purchasing the Polk ceiling and wall speakers for the living room on Feb 1st. In the other rooms they will be wired with outlets to plug into Instead of wall mounted speakers. Since I actually have several 5.1 AV receivers it should be no issue as is the speakers and sub-woofer for the living room and bedroom. I had another friend give me a High end Yamaha receiver and an Infinity center speaker and sub-woofer. He's pretty well off and he was just getting rid of extra stuff he had lying around.

This is the bedroom set I'm looking at getting.

My friend might provide me with some furniture also. I'll have to see what hes giving me so I can try to match it.

I had hoped you were giving up on anime and those stupid avatars.

I stopped reading after I realized you weren't, but from what I did gather, you're happy right now with life, so yay or something.

That's good that your life is on the upswing.

I love furniture shopping. Ray and I know that in the next couple of years we need to buy new furniture for every room in the house. It's been over 10 years since we bought furniture. I'm aiming to streamline and buy more simple pieces that I can re-do and re-accessorize throughout the years without having to get rid of them.

Congrats on your work paying off!

And I don't think 1200 sq ft is particularly small... my place here now is something like 200 and it's huge compared to what most people I know have - and this isn't even England. So extra congrats on a pretty big place. How many cats do you have?

I have three cats. Two of them are very old. Zippy and Cassandra are pretty old and Yoshiko is now five. I'm planning on getting a Maine **** as my next cat when I loose one.

I'm torn on what to do when I lose my cat. He's 12, and is in relatively good health, but I don't expect him to last forever. I'd like to get a new cat, but I'd feel bad getting a kitten when there are so many cats looking for homes. But then I'd be getting an older cat set in his/her ways and not used to my home. My cat is fairly well behaved as is. Tables and counters are off limits, he rarely gets into the garbage (only if I take a bag out of the can and forget to put it outside). Many of my family members have cats that will jump up on counters and tables without thinking twice. And it's not like I trained my cat not to do it, he just never did it.

1200 is small for an American house. Smiley: lol Ours is 1500 square feet, with another 500 for the double garage, and it's considered a medium sized house at best. The house I grew up in was well over 2,000 square feet, and the baby McMansions start around 3K.

Apartments, on the other hand, are frequently in the 350-800 square foot range. 200 square feet is pretty tiny. Do you have a bathroom at all? A kitchen?

My house is 1300 sqft, but has a full basement, which will hopefully be completed by the end of the summer (shooting for early-mid summer though).

I guess it depends on where in the country you live, because judging by the size of the houses around me, 1300 is a fairly average size.

1700 here. I think... maybe 1500. I don't remember.

I want something smaller. It's a real pain having to keep a house this size clean by yourself. It really never ******* ends. I want to move into one of those efficiency apartments old people live in.

No, no. The apartments immediately before that. They have a heated pool.

I wouldn't want to live in something that big by myself. I grew up in a 1 floor 3 bedroom bungalow with finished basement that was ~1200 square feet, and that was plenty of room, with a family.

They have those for non-wrinkly folks. They're called studio apartments.

2600 total here sitting on 1/2acre.

I really thought this thread was going to be something along the lines of "I decided to start dressing like a boy again".

That looks all right. American houses tend to look like they could blow over any minute, I don't like that, but otherwise...

That always kind of amuses me. The worst we can get over here to hurt a house is some frost, a bit of snow and maybe a small earthquake every couple of years and yet we build all our houses with bricks yet in America even in places where tornadoes and whatnot are regular, houses are still built from wood and plastic.

Still, if I look beyond the missing bricks from your house, it looks nice. Smiley: smile

Edit: actually, I forgot high water, that's not all that uncommon and a good reason not to build wooden houses.

Actually, the house will be brick. The slab has a ledge where they will be setting them. I should have more pix soon. My 5.1 surround sound speakers arrived Friday. One set goes in the celing and the other mounts in the wall on each side of the TV. Everything is Polk audio so it should be really nice when it's done.

Oh, that's good, then. Are you in an area that's actually affected by severe weather regularly?

Yep I'm in central Texas. We have severe thunderstorms, hail, and more. Oh, and we can be hit by hurricanes here. I personally haven't experienced much more than the rains generated by one but I've never been in the direct path.

Smiley: thumbsup

Don't forget the tornadoes and occasional heavy snow in April.

Texas weather is best weather.

I always feel more snug in a brick house, but the tornadoes (our worst severe weather here) pretty much don't give a **** whether your house is brick or wood or plastic. It'll be destroyed anyway. Our earthquakes are infrequent and tiny, a hurricane has to REALLY just plow on inland to reach us, and our flood control is good enough we'd have to get a 1000 year flood for it to even approach our house.

Is that an acid etched concrete floor? I love those.
My wife +3 kids and me all live in a 1400sq.ft. house and its plenty big so you should be fine unless your cats are of the lion(leonine?) variety.

The whole house will have tiled floors except the bedroom. It will have wood floors.
