Hello Gamers! My name is Michele Marvel and I am a doctoral student at Walden University. I would like to invite you to participate in a research study that is designed to explore player characteristics, motivation, and participation in MMORPGs. The goal of this research is to provide information that will help educators and game creators to design effective virtual worlds that may be useful in higher education. If you are 18 or older and currently play MMORPGs (like World of Warcraft, Everquest II, Second Life, or Rift) please consider participating in this study.

To participate, all you need to do is to complete an online survey about your personality, gaming habits, and motivation to play MMORPGs. There are a few demographic questions as well. The entire survey should take about 15-20 minutes of your time. All survey responses will be kept confidential and you will not be asked to provide any identifying information as a part of this survey.

If you have any questions about this research project, please do not hesitate to contact me, Michele Marvel, at michele.marvel@waldenu.edu. You may also contact my dissertation committee chair, Dr. Hedy Dexter, at hedy.dexter@waldenu.edu.

Here is the link to the survey:

Best Wishes!
Michele Marvel
The IRB approval number for this survey is: 06-05-12-0014458.

You may want to contact Ben Bertoli, who is a teacher in Indiana that was trying to create a educational MMO for sixth graders, I've posted the article Kotaku published about his work below. Mr. Bertoli may be able to assist you with any additional research you may need.

I like the "to participate" part the best. Like a survey is not only so hard to figure out on our own, but that it was such a unique idea of the creator of said survey that it just had to be explained to us lesser beings.

I don't always post on zam.com

But when I do, it's about feeding a survey random data.

There should be a 100 or 500 post requirement to ask a forum to take a survey.

Or I could just limit them to one or two per month.

And then the riddles should be about random things that have happened here on the forums.

I have updated my bio with some information about my interest in gaming and why I am doing this research. Perhaps that will be more helpful than having a random person pop into your forum and post yet another survey? Smiley: smile

Gold stars to everyone who has taken the survey! Smiley: smile Your help is greatly appreciated! This is a massive project. The survey opened Sunday, and will run through 12:00 am on July 23. As of this morning, 132 kind individuals have completed the full survey, only 979 more to go! Weird number, right?

Thanks again to all who have completed the survey and to Zam.com for permitting me to post it here. Smiley: smile

My lucky number is four billion. That doesn't come in real handy when you're gambling. "Come on four billion!... ****! Seven. Not even close. I need some more dice. Four billion divided by six... at least. Snake eyes!" I just said "snake eyes." That's a gambling term. Or it's a animal term too.
