So, while there's no official music forum, the OOT has always been the go to place for it. So, I'd like to bring your attention to a band I had never heard of before last night's Offspring show, called Dead Sara. The most remarkable thing about this band, besides the fact that as musicians they were all incredibly talented, tight, & had a distinct sound, was the voice of their singer.
Girl's got PIPES. Reminded me a little of Mama Cass, a little of Melissa Ethridge, & a little of Stevie Nicks- but with hard rock/metal/hardcore trappings. I moved to Boston from rural New Hampshire a dozen years ago pretty much just so I could go to shows & I've been to many. Sure, I've seen better performances (The White Stripes at Agganis Arena, Paul McCartney at Fenway, Tom Petty at the Garden, Springsteen at Gillette, Bad Religion w/Less Than Jake at Avalon- just to name a few), but not since I saw a band by the name of The Living End open for Green Day a decade ago have I been so impressed with an opening act.
Here's some samples:
Weatherman: For those that like their rock hard:
& here they are channeling some Fleetwood Mac:
& finally, here's their singer covering Jim Morrison with The Doors (Yes, really) & killing it:
Go buy their stuff & see them when they come to your town, they deserve to be successful. She did a duet with Dexter of the Offspring on their song Gone Away, & it was by far the highlight of the night. I love being pleasantly surprised like that.
