*Intermittent Hunger Obtaining Postcount

Once a week, on Sundays, I go visit my parents and sister. We have breakfast and catch up on what each of us is up to. But we're looking for a bigger selection of dishes to try in order to spice up the menu, since it's usually one of three or four thingsBiscuits and gravy, Pancakes/Waffles, breakfast burritos or just eggs and sausage/bacon.

So I'm looking for any suggestions for cheap and easy breakfasts we can try out in order to liven up the weekly family gathering.

Also, this is a ding thread.

Dancing rodents on your accomplishment.

And what in the hell is wrong with biscuits and gravy that you would need something else?

Quiche is easy and can be prepared ahead of time. I make muffins an awful lot - usually blueberry. Serve them up with some breakfast meat (preferably bacon) and fruit. My kids still like pigs in a blanket (sausage wrapped in pancakes) - they are pretty good soaked in real maple syrup.

Apparently your entire family has never heard of French Toast before.

We've done that too. It's too much like pancakes for my parents. They want something different. Yet each of my suggestions that we have a smoked fish breakfast gets struck down.

Goddammit. All I have to top that is space jam remixes.

Pold, you could always try some huevos rancheros. Or crepes. Or a breakfast casserole.

Can try various variations on eggs/bacon/etc as well. Suppose it depends on how much effort you want to go into. Eggs Benedict might be a bit time consuming, but basic poached eggs over toast isn't. Second the idea of crepes. Also look at mix and match omelets. Try using chorizo instead of bacon for a bit of variation if you want.

Are you married to the idea of this being "breakfast", or can it be more of a brunch? Cause with brunch, you could look at various soups with bread/toast/whatever. My Dad was always a big Sunday lunch/brunch kind of guy when we were growing up, so we were treated to everything from the aforementioned Huevos Rancheros, to fresh clam soup (we sometimes went clamming, go figure!), to lemon roasted chicken. Another idea is bagel-pizza. Cut bagels in half, spread tomato paste (or a prepared marinara type sauce depending on how fancy you want to be) add toppings (cheese, pepperoni, whatever). Toss in oven on cookie sheet (or in toaster oven I suppose) for a short while and then eat. You can go lighter, with cottage cheese and whatever goes with cottage cheese, salads, fruit, etc if you want.

Any kind of family event tends to be important. Even if all you are doing is going out for breakfast. National chains can be nice but they tend to be impersonal and they
dislike having large groups at times. Places like I-hop and Denny's are ok. I'd suggest checking out the smaller local restaurants. Coming from someone that lives in a small
town. Just checking you can find a few that serve breakfast and they usually have a wide variety of things on the menu. Also, if your doing the week/month get together? You can develop a relationship with the owners and even get discounts on your large party. Perhaps even get special food that is not normally served. I'm a regular at one place in my town and when we come in the people are happy friendly and always love to have us there.

I can't really add to the food suggestions so I'll just leave one of my favorite cereal commercials from my childhood. Yes, I still sing this song in my head whenever I hear the word "freaky".

And grats on the ding!
