So, rowing is tearing the hell out of my hands, especially two a days.

Anyone know any good tips for blisters? Speed the healing, less stinging, etc?

Second Skin

It really does work as far as treatment goes. As far as prevention... how about some heavy work gloves?

Gloves are unfortunately expressly forbidden. It's much harder to control the oar when you're wearing them.

That second skin stuff looks awesome, I'll need to check it out.

Haven't used the Second Skin ones, they may be essentially the same thing but they don't have them here, but the Band Aid anti Blister Ampoules are magically effective in my experiance. http://www.band-aid.com/read_review&productId=1053 They taker all the blister pain away, heal it faster, and are rugged enough you can still use hands and fingers while they are healing. The only downside is you go through them quickly for a bad blister. They absorb all the blister fluid continually and eventually fill up and have to be replaced. They don't stick to the blister though you'll end up using 3-5 per blister easily on average though.

Second skin, Blister Ampules??? In MY day we put straight methylated spirits onto the raw blisters on our toes, four days a week, uphill BOTH ways in the snow. If the blister hadn't already been rubbed raw by our padded pointe shoes, we popped the blister and then applied methylated spirits. Anyone who managed to bleed through their point shoes by the end of class got bonus points, but alack, I never did.

You know, I actually believed this until the snow part. Snow in Australia? For shame Ari, for trying to deceive him. Smiley: disappointed

suck it up and find out how you can get them to heal the quickest? I don't think preventing is really possible.

Called a coxswain, actually. Cox for short. All the jokes have already been made about that, don't bother.

Pretty much what I'm trying to do here. Preventing them is impossible. I'm more than willing to suck it up and deal with it, but at the same time if I can avoid unnecessary pain, I'm ok with that too.

With time callouses will form...newb.

Cut the skin off and cauterize it with a lighter?

So snow is exotic enough there to place it in zoos for the public to view? I wonder how much the zoo would pay for some icicles. Smiley: sly

You're doing it wrong. When in a boat your hands should contain beer and/or fishing gear.

I just twitched, remembering one time performing in the corps and I could feel the blood seeping into the shoes. As soon as the curtain dropped, I dropped onto my feet and frantically tore off my shoes. That was the worst. And what sucked, that was the matinee performance so I had to soak my feet, tape them up and stick them in a fresh pair of unbroken pointe shoes. I will never forget the agony of that night.

it's cool to find out what and why there's that anguished shout about blisters at the end of Helter Skelter.

But given that one can potentially die from an untreated infected blister, I don't recommend just ignoring a raw blister. If the skin over the blister is intact, then ignore away.
