Just thought I'd share. Pretty much sums up everything I hate about the gaming industry right now.

Stunning new evidence that cranky gamers have much more time on their hands to flood internet polls than, say, people foreclosed out of their homes.

Bilking people out of money for a service no matter how great or small is still crooked.

Be that as it may, it hardly makes one the "worst".

Open online polls are good for exactly one thing: seeing how many people you can get mobilized on Reddit or 4chan or Something Awful to vote in an online poll. By its very nature, gamers have an outsized voice.

Very true. I just find it disheartening that a company who's product I used to go nuts for is even being voted on. I'm tired of being DLC'd and Season Pass'd (looking at you BioShock) to death that I'm just about done with gaming.

On one hand I want to say they're just getting it so bad because of the Simcity thingy. On the other hand SWTOR hasn't exactly been managed to expectations either. Big titles having problems and not meeting expectations will get you bad press, and they're on a roll with that as of late.

They've been on a roll with that for quite some time at this point.

I mean, EA is pretty much a meme at this point, but it's only like that because the reality doesn't seem to be significantly better.

As Ive said in the past, They arent the "worst" company in America, but I know we dont have a Bank of A anywhere near us and the coast is far away. Of the companies listed EA probably effects more people then the others.

Also like was said, welcome to online, where a good amount of people are gamers. It's the old "Doesn't affect me, there for doesn't matter" mentality.

I think they should make Worst Gaming company of the year, that would be fun to watch. Capcom with crappy DLC on disk? Activision with shovelware? Sqaure Enix with crap gameplay (think FF13), and now their DLC happy games? Ubisoft with Craptastic DRM(I admit they have gotten a bit better)? Ea with all of the above + Online Passes?

This is worth a watch http://www.escapistmagazine.com/videos/view/jimquisition/5946-Why-Do-People-Hate-EA

EA may be one of the larger game producers/distributors but they're hardly the only one.

One little game left 'unpurchased' speaks louder than one clicking of a button on an internet survey.

I wonder how many of the button clickers purchased and played the games anyway.

You run into a small problem there. "Dont buy EA games!" doesnt work. Because EA is a Publisher not a studio. If you Like Bioware but hate EA how can you support Bioware without supporting EA. Think about it this way, You like Bioware, you like the Mass Effect games but hate EA, if you dont buy the games EA will just close the studio or drop the series because of "not enough interest". Then we lose out of great series or lose great studios.

It's a vicious cycle, and unfortunately the woefully uninformed masses dont pay attention/care. Remember how CoD:MW2 maps got jacked to 15 per DLC(When the norm had been 9.99 before that) and everyone complained and were going to boycott. Most of those people still bought it because all their uninformed friends bought it, and god forbid you're friends have fun while you make a moral stand.

The best way to show support for a studio isnt to buy day 1, wait til reviews etc and a discount is put on then buy.

Honestly I wonder whats coming, I hear many 'Indie' game press (Sessler, TotalBiscuit, Jim Sterling, Marcus Beer) hinting that a gaming crash may happen again in the not so distant future. It makes sense to a point, but many dont want to see it happen. But we have companies pushing out games they almost know they CANT make a profit on (BF3 needed to sell 5 million copies to break even, which while a good game can hit that mark, it is still a push for most)

Companies are just going to keep pushing what they can do until it breaks, balancing everything on the uninformed shopper. I mean some of this stuff is already pushing the line legally (On disk DLC) and everyday you see someone new realizing that 60 dollar game they bought has pieces chopped out to be sold ala carte to them later, or the now infamous Preorder. All it does is tells the company "hey Im willing to give you money no matter how bad the game actually is!" (Aliens Colonial Marines)

To play a little devil's advocate:

1) The award is called the "Golden Poo". It's also done as a March Madness-style bracket. I think that the setup helps to predefine the voter base in this, and how seriously we should all take it.

2) EA is one of the companies that, having "won" the award, might actually take the insult to heart and enact a few small changes. If Monsanto or Blackwater take this award, methinks they wouldn't even bother to issue a public statement about it, let alone stop monopolizing agriculture or stop killing brown people for cash.

Pretty sure this isn't the first time they won... and they still did what they did with SimCity.

They won last year, mainly due to Mass effect 3 ending being rushed and pretty much FUBAR, also due to their other practices. They hand waved it, saying "We arent as bad as <insert other company> we deliver entertainment so we cant really hurt anyone meaningfully"

This year is due to Simcity, and again with their business practices. Now they are handwaving it with "All the voters are childish, and thats not anti consumer DRM, its a "service", and "Numbers dont lie people we have X amount of happy Origin accounts, and statics show Micro transactions are what everyone wants" But at least they spruced up the statement with "We will try to change" wink wink nudge nudge.

Edit: Also We're not so bad becuase we support LBGT community, so you should all be applauding us!

I largely agree with that. They sell video games. If you don't like their video games, don't buy them. Your life won't suffer any significant negative impact by not playing Battlefield Dragon Effect 4.

I'd also add that even with all the consumer's complaints, EA still apparently delivers massively popular, iconic games. Personally, I never really pay attention to who is publishing a game (other than say, Blizzard, where it's impossible not to notice). But I also don't really follow gaming business or culture.

Every time Bean posts, I think it's Samira as I can see his avatar out of the corner of my eye and when not looking directly at it, it looks like Mr. Winky. I am disappointed every time when I realize it is not her.

Yes, but first you have to purchase the Socks DLC in order to have them blown off.

Is it because whatever Blizzard releases is instantly covered in a thick layer of fanboy *****?
