Yeah, well, I listen to BOTH kinds of music, country and western!

Feels like there's not much of a distinction anymore though.

In one you lose your truck first. In the other you lose your dog.

Western didn't have trucks, your horse just died. Now most people with a ranch have ATVs, and singing about running out of gas isn't as catchy.

This is the only country song I've actually enjoyed enough to seek out.

I just ended up watching the videos instead of listening to the music...

And what do Johnny Cash songs count as? Because I love Johnny Cash.

It certainly helps.

Cash kind of switches between Southern styles. Rockabilly, Gospel, Blues, Folk, etc etc.

I'd call Allman Brothers Southern Blues. They were the gateway blues bands (along with Little Feat) that led to my Stevie Ray Vaughn addiction.

Marshall Tucker, Lynard Skynard and Charlie Daniels I'd label as Southern Rock.

Johny Cash was pretty solid Country back in his days with June. He recorded music for decades though.... he evolved. Also he didn't seem the type to feel compelled to stick to the standards.

Country made him famous, but I wouldn't stick him with that label.

I like Prince, but only when he stopped doing pop crap and started doing more funk. He is a great musician and performer.

I was being a smartass. The Allman Brothers were most certainly not Country.

Southern Blues for sure, and they also rocked, but Rock and Roll is Rhythm and Blues at its soul, really.

SRV was in a category all his own. Thanks for reminding me to listen up to Texas Flood again. I let that one go for too long.
