Ceramic shaving cup ~ 4in inches high lightly fluted at the top
Makers mark from top to bottom: the word POEM; under that is a logo which is a square with a Cross-of-Lorraine (sorta) with C O printed on either side of the crosses bottom stem. Under all of that is printed SAN FRANCISCO
Paint on outside is a flower pattern pink and yellow, very delicate; almost watercolor pale.

Well, I can't find it. It's not a major pottery or ceramics manufacturer, I can tell you that. Nor can I find a ceramics or pottery company or barber thingy company from San francisco that would match. You may want to check here http://www.kovels.com/Marks/Pottery-Porcelain/Lines.html and see if you recognize something, that or take a picture and post it. It would be useful to know if any part of the mark is raised or indented like it was stamped or molded into the piece, and if the logo looks like it was stamped on after firing, or done before the finish coat was baked on. Is this thing old, or fairly recent?

I'm guessing kind of olde, hence the thread. It came in with a "grampa died and here's his stuff" donation and has been lingering at the Mission ever since (like, two years).
There's a subtle tactile feel to the logo, but I can't tell if it is post-glaze or rising through it.
If I had to guess, I'd say the flowers were poppies. They are six-petaled with a cluster or red bits in the center.

if can feel it on the glazing, chances are it was a stamped on logo afterwards. How certain are you about the letters? is it possible the O is a D, etc? also what color is the logo itself.

Ok, the logo drawing helped. That's actually a Takahashi of San Francisco POEM series cup. Here's a soap dish with a very similar logo. I'm guessing yours is older than this example.

They started putting the word "Takahashi" and dating the logos in the 1980's. The word Takahashi without the date was probably from the 1970's. Anything missing the word Takahashi but having a product line name probably was made betweeen 1950-1975, though I don't know enough about them to narrow it down more than that, though it's likely after 1965.

The flower pattern on the pitcher in that link is exactly the pattern on the shaving cup.
