My partner is. He plays with headphones on, but I get to hear the acoustic sounds the electric guitar makes. Two months in, and his acoustic sounds have gotten really pretty. They improved out of sight after he did many rounds of "Harmonic Heist" and "The Temple of Bends" technical challenges.
I can't believe how far he's progressed in just two months. He had an advantage going in, he knows piano, so he knew about the names of notes and how they relate. But knowing the theory and being able to play the set up of a guitar are two way different things. He's playing 2-3 hours an evening (Say hooray for Asperger's habitual ...habits) so that's helped him progress of course. It's just so nice listening to the bell-like notes he produces, compared to the scratchy ones of 2 months ago. He can actually play chords, and move rapidly in between strings, which he couldn't do if his life depended on it, the first fortnight in.
