Illinois... finally.Follow

Some time in January, many of Illinois' highways increased to 70 mph, from 65.

Cut almost 40 minutes from my last trip. Still a few stretches on I 57 I saw that were 65, but not very many.

Vroom vroom.

Obviously not. But going 80 in a 70 is a lot less likely to get a ticket than 80 in a 65.

Lots of truck traffic on 57. Ended up having to go 85 in the left lane most of the time, cause I didn't feel like driving behind or along side these trucks.

And 57 seemed to have a ton of cop traffic. I traveled it the week before Thanksgiving and there must have been a cop every 10 miles. Probably prepping to hit speeders during the big travel time. Then the speed limit was 65, so I stuck to around 73 or so the whole time. I wasn't too familiar with the cop situation in Illinois, or how they treated out of state people, so I figured under 10 over was safe. In west Michigan, the cops don't seem to care at all on the freeways. 70 speed limit, but 80-85 doesn't seem to make them blink.

Also, the company doesn't appreciate it when you get speeding tickets while on trips.

But they have great hot dogs and some really decent mexican food in and around the Chicago area.

Unless you're in NJ.

I'm going 80-85 my entire 70 mile commute. There's always someone going quite a bit faster that the cops are more interested in.

70mi each way?

I used to travel 51 miles each way at one point when i had to go to Allentown from the willow grove area(outside of philly) It was all highway which was nice most the time....

No one ever drives to my hometown if they can help it.

I hate driving through Allentown. I don't even know why.

I'm right near LBI, though, on the parkway. So plenty of people drive THROUGH my town willingly. And make it difficult to get anywhere.

(Took me 2.5 hours to get home yesterday).

The problem with my commute is that, with traffic patterns, 15 minutes can turn into 45. And I already typically leave early enough to get there half an hour early. So I'd be leaving at like 6:00 to get there at 8 and, we'll, I'm not about that.

Michigan and Detroit are similar.

There's New York City, then a void of nothingness, then Pennsylvania, Vermont, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, and Rhode Island.

Which is a nice way of saying more void.

Which is why you keep your eyes open and if/when you spot a cop, you just let off the gas. By the time the cop focuses enough on you to check your speed, you should have slowed down a few mph, without touching the break. Obviously, this requires a bit of awareness, but you can usually tell when a cop is around because everyone else starts slowing down. Pretty much just don't be the one car zipping past all the others, and your odds of getting a speeding ticket on the highway is close to zero.
