I was actually kind of disappointed by German beer. It wasn't bad, and it was certainly better than the mass produced **** water of Bud or Coors, but it wasn't great either.

The best named thing I had was Astra. The unnamed house wiessbiers were palatable. The beers in general had their asses kicked by the lattes served up everywhere, milchkaffee. Suck it Starbucks.

Yeah, Germany has been left very far behind on craft beer, their beer culture is extremely conservative with every other town having their own pilsener and only a few hubs of really good beer, most of them traditional.

The UK has a better beer scene, as does all of Scandinavia, the Netherlands, Belgium (duh) and even northern italy and the area around Barcelona and Valencia in Spain are great.
