I would've thought that Kao being fired would've made this a better place.

(1) ZAM is increasingly obsolete as MMORPGs are more hand-holding (no need to look up quests) and host their own robust forums. So less people have reason to come here for gaming information. Dead as they are, the out of topic style forums are the busiest part of the boards right now.
(2) Administrative changes have helped increase the attrition of the "out of topic" regulars who were here, not for quest hints, but for social banter.
(3) Lack of new people (see point #1) means that the people leaving (#2) aren't being replaced. Previously, people always just moved on after a time (well, except me) but new people would become regulars. Now, no one new is filling those slots. The slower the forums are, the less the regulars have reason to post and the spiral gets worse.

It's not like the filter is that ******* intrusive. Hell, you barely even notice the damn thing unless you're drunk-posting like a *****.

Right?

Adsense is the reason for the filter. Apparently if you say ****, tits and cockmaster, you lose your adsense funding.

Edit: REALLY? Cockmaster isn't filtered? Where's that list of trivial **** that is, again? I want to laugh at it once more. Smiley: laugh

It was actually kind of amusing at first when it was ridiculously broken. It didn't even parse correctly so if you had a sequence of "bad words" it'd only filter every other word, and even now some of the choices are amusing like poop gets asterisked while crap isn't. I personally lost it when fitted was filtered.

Just picture a middle aged lady living in the midwest in the 50s, complete with ankle length skirt, sweater, and horn rimmed glasses. Then imagine which words she would say in a whisper because they're scandalous. That's how I figure the filter operates. Obviously, such a woman would not even know some of the more newfangled words, hence the filter not triggering on them.

Isn't there some other kind of company that ZAM coulda used other than adsense though?

I think Adsense has a pretty big monopoly on the whole advertising thing. And I'm sure the way things are going on the management side of things, there' little incentive to spend the time and money to explore alternatives when they could just hastily add a filter (which, when it was first implemented was much worse than it even is now).

Fullchan is just better for talking about ****. Especially now that Halfchan is coming apart at the seams with their heavy-handed SJW moderators banning threads.
http://boards.4chan.org/v/thread/283970334/deleting-vidya-threads

/b/ is virtually in open revolt and anyone worth a **** in /pol/ has long since went to fullchan after the #GamerGate edict.

I for one am happy to see 4chan go the way of the dodo.
