I am formally appealing ALL of my Karma ratings that I have received to date. This is completely serious as if I am not satisfied I will not only delete this account, but I will post all the information about the Karma system "flaws" that everyone but the admins seem to be aware of on other forums (GameFAQs, KillingIfrit, IGN, etc...). I want to see WHEN the ratings occured, WHY they occured (admins need to look at the posts and come up with a LOGICAL reason), HOW many ratings based on level, and WHAT impact each rating had to my average rating.
Many may think I am being totally selfish, but I am actually doing this to IMPROVE the quality of the forums IMMENSELY by making the admins take responsibility for the system that they designed, and showing them how all of this information should be available automatically to ALL users. Note that I didn't include WHO as that still should be admin-only to avoid retaliation. So the admins are probably wondering how they could implement this "update"...
First, I believe that the admins have the tools in place to look up all of this information upon request (as I hope will be demonstrated in this thread). The key is to allow the users access to most of this information automatically and to create (or modify one if one already exists for the admins) an output screen to display it. The reasons will come from the USERS, as they will be required to give one (from a pre-defined list) whenever they rate a post.
Ever since I created this account and gained (now lost) Scholar status I have seen the many flaws of the existing system first hand, and every day when I look up information and then go to the FFXI main forum it's like good vs. evil (good info vs. evil forums) and I hate pretending to be evil. The above solution will only fix one problem: the lack of accountability, but there are other problems such as the lack of a purge system, which both affects the Karma system (the more posts an account has, the less impact the ratings have) and the entire web site (you're adding more and more servers because there's so much wasted space in the database). I notice that the forum "version" is "2.11", but a "3.0" needs to be developed, and future versions could improve navigation, interaction, and even allow more features, such as appealing ratings to admins and purges based on ratings.
Finally, if the admins decide not to fulfill my request (note the suggestions are NOT included in the ultimatum) and I leave, I hope that they will leave this thread untouched (it may get rated into sub-default anyways by the users), and perhaps they will consider implementing the suggestions even without me, and others can add to them as well. Remember, I am doing this to show the admins how to transform the forums into a better place for everyone by allowing users to see detailed information about their ratings. The suggestions will let users see this information automatically, plus add a purge system so that less space is wasted, which in turn saves money on buying servers.
