We have a server not responding at all at the moment, there's nothing we can do about it remotely, so we're waiting for our ISP to reboot it for us. Until then, we had to take it out of the server rotation, so pages are going to be slower as the other servers try to pick up the extra load.
Do what now?

Should start speeding up, we got the server back online but replication is quite backed up.

tried another config change on our main server to see if it optimizes usage

hrm, adding more connections to our max connection list makes somebody in oklahoma city smash the crap out of our site, up to 76 connections at once now, overloading our bandwidth downloading a crapload of pictures. Someone's set their browser to "annihilate"

I'm not sure how you could download a bunch of pictures from Alla.

Wouldn't have anything to do (would it?) with issues like certain other sites (I forget which ones have been mentioned in the past) as having linked directly to images from your database here?
not really, as far as I can tell. What trashes us is people who abuse our site directly through various methods
