Karma resetting to 3.0Follow

Ok, About 20 minutes ago, I posted on the site. My Karma was 3.91. I went, took a shower, came back and post another post. My Karma is 3.00. None of my posts were rated down. What gives? This is the second time this has happened. The first time, I sent an e-mail to allakhazam@allakhazam.com and I assume they reset it to 3.90 which was where it was at that time.

That lasted a couple days, and now I am reset to default again. Bug?

Is it possible to have my karma reset to 3.00?

I made a sockpuppet yesterday with the intent of using it to rate myself down, but I have a high post count, and after sleeping on the idea, I start to think it's going to take way too much of my time to do.

If it were possible for the admins to just nuke my karma internally back to plain "user" status, I'd be thrilled.
It would also mean that I wouldn't have to go and rate down those posts of mine which were actually good and considered worthy of a rate up by other people.

running the script manually sets you back to the right value again.

post here if it happens again, I'm not sure why running it once gives the wrong value and again gives the right one

I guess 725 of the total 1812 6 ratings on you coming from your own IP explains the sage thing

Was my own request simply too bizarre to be taken seriously?

(your note above, Dana, makes me all the less desirous of this red name)

Quite a few people actually by now have asked that. We haven't done it for anyone in the past since it would basically involve nuking all of everyone's ratings on you, and I'm not sure I'd like doing that.

    Understood.

I guess its all up to me, silly as it is.

Someone suggested explaining my desire in the Asylum, as in all likelyhood the people there would gleefully work their magic to camp me into oblivion, but I've noticed that it's suddenly the popular "anti-hero" thing to do, where other sages are now challenging one another to see who can get into the grey first.

Naturally if I made my request to them, not only would they refuse to camp me, but also call me lots of names and accuse me of unoriginal thinking, which would likely hurt my ego.
Truth is, I know they're all better than me, which is why they should remain red, while I quietly toil on my own time to work my way back to a more humble and fitting status.

Anyway, thanks for the explanation. I don't want to make anyone risk fiddling with more code than they need to, I'd just wondered if it were possible without being troublesome.

Tenmiles, can I make a small suggestion? You're a great poster and very deserved of the sage title. Don't let the way others rant and abuse the karma system force you to go to any extra trouble trying to rate yourself down. I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't be ashamed for getting sage the "right" way. I've read enough of your posts on this site for long enough to know that you DO deserve it. Besides, the safest thing to do is just ignore the karma system altogether. I know, easier said than done when everyone's always complaining about it. It's an excellent idea in principle, but it assumes that the users of the site are mature enough to make it effective. >_<
