Not sure if this is reportable here, but I'm currently being karma-camped in the WoW forums. Someone is going through all of my posts on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th pages of threads and rating them down. It looks like it's just one person.
Is there any way you could let me know who this is, or do something to prevent it? It'd be appreciated.

I'm being karma camped too.
The admins generally do anything about it unless it's EXTREME.
At first glance it appears that it is random rate downs, but I've noticed several threads where my posts are rated down and no one else's are.
I'm not worried about it, but I have almost four times as many posts as you so I'm more buffered against it.
Karma camping is so lame.

Yeah.. I just wish I knew who it was. They're being really stealthy about it, making sure to rate me down (and me exclusively) in posts that people aren't reading anymore. It was really odd, because yesterday I made numerous posts that people actually rated up, then when my new karma score appeared a few hours ago it was lower.
Anything you guys can do about this? Is there any way that I can get a name? Is it a sock puppet that some forum regular is using to rate people down?

Often times it is done with a sockpuppet and the admins can norate that sock. I'll admit to a certain amount of curiousity myself. I'm curious if it is the same person rating both of us down.
Same deal here--Old threads no longer active. The only reason I noticed is I went into my post history to look for an old post and saw a slew of 2.XX karma scores.
I noticed the same thing happening to me, specifically in FFXI Lakshmi forum. I try to be nice, why doesn't everyone like me?

I'm wondering if someone is on an anti-sage campaign...I'm noticing the only people rated down have been sages.
Or it could be coincidence.

I've been getting the same thing with old posts. I've been getting several rate downs and can't find a single rate down on any of my posts that are towards the top. I wish I could search for all my posts to figure out where and why I'm randomly losing karma.
Edit: Also I don't have near the karma buffer that you 2 have. So few posts under my belt.

gauloises: hm. the guy who's rating you (and a lot of other people) down is at the same IP as someone else, but they could just be roommates or something since both have a decent amount of posts under their belts (250+)

I've been posting here for a year, and only recently found gotten my very own karma camper (according to my post history, which has been taking quite a hit lately). I'm not upset about it or anything, but it is kind of amusing. I must have really hurt someone's e-feelings.
it's probably mainly to counteract your rate sock rating you upwards, though!

I don't care about my personal karma. I don't like being anonymously rated down because it defeats the point of the idea of having open discussion on the forum. I want to know what I said that someone disagreed with or was offended by so we can discuss it. But my karma score can be whatever...matters not to me. I do, however, care about abuse of the karma system. I've seen good posters get rated to the point where they can't rate posts, and idiots get sage or higher, then use that to karma camp or whatever. For the most part the system works great, but we all know it gets abused. Heck, even in this very thread there has been some admitted abuse of the system by people who are otherwise fairly respected.
Yes, it's just a number, however there are some people who do care about thier karma and get upset when they get camped.
I didn't mean for my statement to be snotty or touchy or anything. I honestly noticed that a bunch of sages in the WoW forums were being rated down for no apparent reason. I wasn't going to say anything until I saw this post, then I figured I'd add my observations.
I didn't ask for my karma to be reset or the person punished...I just added my info about the weird ratings I've noticed.
I don't like when people get rated down for no apparent reason. The forums are for discussion and the rating system shouldn't be used to agree or disagree with a person.
And I've had enough people attack what I say with comments along the lines of "There's another know-it-all sage" (etc.) that it bothers me when people generalize gurus or sages or whatnot.
I didn't sockpuppet my way to the score. I can be rated down to scholar and it would be fine. I just really hate that people judge me on what I say just because I have some stupid green name and that it's automatically assumed by some that:
-I have a sockpuppet
-I care deeply about karma and need medication if rated down
-I automatically rate everyone down who disagrees with me.
Hmmm, maybe I am touchy. But I really like these forums and after being here as long as I have the constant sniping and flaming just because of karma is getting on my nerves.

I noticed that a number of posts have been rated down without any rebuttal or mention, and I find it odd to get several rate-downs in a matter of hours, when most people rated me up for those very posts. I take my karma seriously (perhaps too seriously), since I use the rating as an indicator of whether my posts are any good or not.
Yes, folks, Karma-trolls are there- and they bite.
