Question: How come, when a post is nuked and the user banned, almost all of the text (user name and their whole post) turns silver? Is this some random error or an implemented design?
See Here for an example

Tought: Would it be possible to have forum specific sigs? When I am posting in OoT or the asylum, I really have no need to have any gaming info in there. However, when I am posting in my job and server forums, I would like to have some of my relevant stats and links to my character profile.

Is that even possible, or would it make the code monkeys explode?

Thought #2: Would it be possible to have the ratings next to a person name stay at whatever I rated them as? I wind up seeing some post, and forget wether or not I have already tried to rate it.

Again, something cosmetic, but it would be useful in my opinion.

Nah, I am quasi-ADD and I get real bored with my avatars. (Plus the one I made about killing unborn babies refused to upload with the right timing.) I need to make a new one, cause I am getting bored with this one, esp. with everyone commenting on it. Smiley: laugh

Answer: Recently, nuked posts were changed so that they remain visable by Admins, the color change was implemented so they are easier to tell appart.

Tought: Forum specific sigs would increasse the amount of sig storage space for everyone, and it would be hard to implement in all forums without making so you could have a sig for each of the hundreds of forums, which would present somewhat of a server load issue. Maybee Illia or Danalog has a better idea on how to implement it.

Thought #2: That would require that each and every rating value you made was stored and then read each and every time you viewed a page. for someone with hundreds or even thousands of rates under their belt, (including the 2 you autom atically rate yourself every time you post) I imagine that would get very slow, booth for you and the server, very quickly

Makes sense

Maybe give the asylum, OoT, Sci-Fi, and Multi game dedicated clusters? In my little world, that would work, cause those are the major non-gaming forums, and sig information could be stored seperatly for those forums. (Maybe a plus for premiums?)

Yeah, I figured this one would be a *****.

This is kind of a cool idea. Maybe give each person 2 or 3 that they can choose from in the options (user specified) and can be assigned to the different forums, or clusters of forums (like non-gaming and gaming), kind of like the avatar menu. I'm not sure how much coding would be involved in modifying the options menu, as well as allocating each person space for 2 or 3 sigs and marking different forums, etc... maybe some of the room used for personal files can be allocated to it, since they're text and wouldn't be that large, relatively speaking.

Another good idea.

hmmm. pre stored sigs selectable like avatars could be doable. I'll bring it up.

I've a somewhat tangentially related sig question.

Why is it that when I make a post in a thread under a particular monster, item, or quest (rather than in the general, race, server, or job forums) (for FFXI), the color tags in my sig don't get parsed, and instead are displayed in full, around the text they are meant to color.

This seems to have happened retroactively, after I made my sig what it is now.
I've gone back to see some of these older posts, and the sig is all.. ugly and stuff.

The monster/item/quest forums are an older version than the big ones (I'm not sure how older). You can tell by looking at the very bottom of a page where it says "Forum system created by Illia v2.40" the older version does not show "v2.40" and I believe it's even older than version 2.0.

It's trying to convert a v2.40 signature to a < v2.0 system, which is like trying to convert a Word 2003 document to Word 2000. I think any new posts you make in the old version forums will have the signature show up correctly though.

One problem with this is the "dynamic signature", so you'd have to either eliminate it and integrate the signature code into the post code, or add a reference system where every post references a specific signature and if that signature changes than it only affects those specific posts. So basically you'd either have multiple dynamic signatures with cross-referencing (probably another join table added to the database) or non-dynamic signatures that can be added to posts and even edited within a post. I'm not sure which would be better.

Oooohh, that makes perfect sense. The tags which aren't getting parsed properly do belong to the most recent additions of colors, such as cornflowerblue and navajowhite.

The link tag isn't parsed right either, but I see that it's using the [ url ] rather than the [ link ] tag.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I won't worry about it then.
Well, I didn't worry about it before, it just wasn't aesthetically pleasing; now that I have a reason why, I can live with it.
