Very few people have bought stuff from our store, which has really surprised me. So the question is why not? What are we doing wrong? Is there something you would want to see that isn't there? What would entice you to buy something? What don't you like about what is being offered?

We welcome any feedback. We're happy to try to design whatever it is that the community wants. Thanks.

If I were to venture a guess. It's more then likely the fact that it's Cafepress. Which is great for a custom shirt, if it's 1 shirt, for yourself. But seriously, do honestly expect people to buy this T-shirt for 24 bucks, plus shipping?

Not a chance sir. It's just not that cool. You start offering them for, say, 15 bucks, I'd buy one. As it stands right now, I can make that shirt for around 4 bucks. At home. With a graphic on the back. And my color of choice shirt.

I know that you and the rest of the Alla team have more resources then Cafepress. Hell, I've made T-shirts. Just print them up and sell them cheaper.

Oh and I know about the "Value Shirt" and thats a damn joke. It's a thin, white, crap T-shirt you get at Walmart 3 for 5 clams.

Maybe you could include a 10% Coupon of the Store when you do premium. Because I'm not getting my magazines, thats for damn sure. This at least, could be tangible.

Oh yes, and for the 10K'rs. I think it would be awesome if you gave them this design as a bumper sticker when that poster hit 10k Smiley: lol

To be perfectly honest, in contradiction to Kaelesh, I actually considered buying one, having been a long-time lurker. But I thought I'd increase my post-count a bit more first Smiley: eek

I should also note that $24 for a T-shirt is pretty cheap over here, about £12 (most decent T-Shirts being ~£15-> ) it would only be the shipping that added notable cost 8-)

Probably not very valuable feedback from a nub-poster from Scotland, but it's my experience none-the-less >.>

Oh god, I don't think we should give people any more reason to spam to 10k then there already is!

I've looked and been tempted to buy a few.. but saving for a wedding soon (that my and theladyfriend are paying for ourselves) Plus having to move her 2000+ miles to me.. so I'm kinda watching what I spend and where... Maybe I should but 1 or 2 now so its still up in a year or so when funds are a little looser Smiley: tongue

It's all because we don't have yo-yo's!

One thing we could do to potentially increase the shirts popularity would be to comission a few art pieces from some of the Webcomic artists from some of the games we cover.

Hmmm, I dunno. There's nothing that really says "I gotta buy this" to me. I'm wary about buying shirts without trying them on, I hate how coffee mugs stain, and I don't buy thongs because people are always tearing them off to get at my sexy body.
#10 Jul 19 2007 at 6:35 PM Rating: Good
Honestly, twenty-four dollars plus shipping is alot of money for a T-shirt, at least for me as a college student.

Most T-shirts in stores are ten to fifteen dollars each, and so that is what I base mentally my price-range upon for a T-shirt that I am going to buy, wear, and abuse.

People are drawn to this site first and foremost for the games and the gaming info. That is what you need to keep in mind when you are designing the shirts/thongs/whatever. Honestly, if you were able to license some things like the FFXI nation symbols or be able to have an EQII symbol on the back/breast pocket, that would be very cool and would make me more want to buy a shirt.

Rather than just trying to solely promote the site, try to promote the site in conjunction with the games that bring the site to life, and include images and stuff that reflect that.

I like this website and all...

Ya know...It's a little nerdy to wear.

Anyhow, as for why I haven't bought one? With the price of gas as it is along with all the other bills to pay, my social/personal budget is tighter than ever. When I have the extra cash, I usually go for a book or video game. My premium is set to auto-renew (August 21st?) and I'm considering changing. I just don't spend enough time here.

I got my custom shirt in, and I'm loving it.

I'll probably order a bumper sticker or something at some point, and will definitely be getting another custom shirt both when I hit Sage and when I hit 10k, but at this point, I am broke.

I will probably break down and buy a customised Stein when I get home and get a new job, but even then, 18.99 seems a little steep really...

I agree! the better the Art the more likely it should sell. Also, I'd lower the prices to 10-15 dollars. As stated most people consider 24 over the top for a T-shirt.

The price is due to using Cafe Press. We actually have very little profit margin on the items. The advantage of using them is that we can have pretty much unlimited items and designs for sale, as they make them one at a time when they are ordered. The disadvantage is that you pay a premium for that advantage. We have to charge at least what the charge us to sell the item. As an alternative, we can order a whole load of shirts up front with a single design through a different company and sell them for $10 to $15. But that would limit us to that single design and color.

Still, what we might do is keep cafe press for the multiple designs and also offer a single color/design shirt (probably the Allakhazam logo with Knowledge is Power on a black or dark blue shirt) through someone else for maybe $10 to $12. Would that be something you would be interested in?

I understand the way Cafe works. Actually did a group shirt from them for another group. But most of the people wanting shirts still like a good design and a resonable price. Having done shirts and actually making them years ago its often best to have several Quality color designs to offer the masses.

I've done shirts in colors for Cons and sold them for 12-15 each and did rather well. I suggest doing some shopping. Most local Shirt makers (silk screening) can do great prices on larger orders.

I was thinking about adding additional products, such as mice, USB devices (cup holders that keep drinks hot/cold), things like that. Gamers like gizmos and geeks like gizmos as well as t-shirts n mugs. Something to think about.

That is a friggen good idea. Seriously, I'd buy a Allakhazam shirt if it had something to do with FFXI or WoW. That and Kaelesh hit the nail on the head as well. $25 bucks is too steep for a T-shirt.

I didn't even know we had one. So my vote goes toward advertising. I didn't read a single post above mine (I'm too tired), but offering a first time purchase coupon could be a draw. And I think a set discount (even small 5-15%) for the premium members who care enough to support the site, would be a nice show of appreciation. Have sales on complete underground dorkdom holidays, like Decemberween.

You could also hire this one chick named "Growlingbunny." She is wicked awesome when it comes to customer service. And she practically lives on this site.

Just my thoughts on it.^^ ...uh, Sir.
