What are the rules on rate-ups exactly?Follow

So after this: http://ffxi.allakhazam.com/db/jobs.html?fjob=4;mid=118643923255746857;num=208;page=3

We're all basically curious what exactly you call abuse? Pikko mentioned guidelines that you, the admins, follow to determine whether something has to be done. After doing some searching, people have come up empty as far as rules posted to users.

I don't need a whole bunch of people coming in and saying we were wrong, we already got that from several admins (actually I think we had 3 or 4 post XD). We're just curious what the guidelines are exactly.

Pretty much don't make circle jerk posts obvious. They can't karma bomb what they don't see.......except they will. Holy **** dood, could you guys have made it a bit more obvious? Wow. You guys should be thanking Pikko. You're lucky she came across it before Kao did. If he found it every single post in that thread would be sub-defaulted.

The thing is there isn't anything set out in stone (well in electrons) that makes that at all clear. Word of mouth from those who have been warned or punished is great, but it would be nice to see something in the FAQ, going over the what kind of standards there are.
#4 Aug 08 2007 at 5:58 PM Rating: Good
I'm not going to keep posting about it, but to be honest you guys had ratefest and got smacked for it. Consider it lesson learned. I've learned, my server forum learned it, the Asylum learned it less than three weeks ago, the OoT learns it on an almost daily basis. It happens to everyone who posts here sooner or later.

Let it go and be happy none of the heavier handed admins found it first. Illia issued a 900 post reduction and a 24 hour mute on Rimesume for trolling the main boards, in case you're wondering what I mean when I say heavier handed admins. No offense Illia.

Be more discreet next time.

And don't mention Pikko's name!

If you are rateing every post in a thread, especially if it is a long thread, up or down, You might be karma camping. The decision is based on an admin review, and we generally take into account the tone of the thread, your past rating history, any user complaints we recieve, and how often such things happen.

If you are following a specific user around and rateing every post they make up or down, you might be karma camping. The decision is based on an admin review of your rating history, their rating history on you (if any), the tone of recent posts you and they made, and if they or you did anything particularily offensive in their posts. If two people want to karm camp each other into pblivion, well that's fine with me.

As a side note, if you are karma camping someone and they start karma camping you (since there are ways to figure that using recent visitors and who has rate ability) DO NOT ask me to investigate karma camping on you. I will check your rating history as well. You would be suprised how often this comes up.

And finally, if you post in a thread with content similar to "hey, post in here and i'll rate you up if you rate me up" we will find it, and we will smite you with unbridled fury. Complaining about said smiteing after the fact is likely to irritate me, and if you are going to complain, I might as well really give you something to complain about if you catch my drift...

Any questions?

I don't know what a Kamra is, but stop giving it drugs, IMO.

Something along these lines should be in the FAQ.

He turned himself in that while ago, I think his NORATE sentance has been finished, let me know if you disagree -- Danalog

If he makes posts containing vowels again, consider changing his name to fru fru mcgoo ~ Kaolian

That's what it says now!

I agree with that.

In the current FAQ, there isn't any real explanation about how taboo CJ'ing or karma-camping is within the Alla community, and with this in the FAQ...there would really be no excuse for any poster to play the "I didn't know" excuse when this sort of issue arises.

Maybe but I can't rate any more. That and I beat you in the only race that matters, despite a recent set back, the 10k title. Smiley: tongue

But I'm still interested to see how much I rated him

I'd just like to note that the OOT/Asylum favoritism came up. I believe that this is because people see "Good" all over the place and assume that they're being rated up like crazy. I am not sure on the exact numbers, but the number ranges for the karma titles do not match up with the number ranges for the "rating" of the thread. My best guess is that things above 3.5 are "Good", so people who are just Scholars can have a "Good" rating just by posting and having no one rate them.

I only discovered this myself a couple months ago (I know, I know, I'm a nub). But perhaps this is why people get the impression that there are CJs going around on a daily basis.

Actually threads filled with stupid crap like "postcount+1" / "randomsmiley here" replied to with "another random smiley" / "ding : 4.00" / "I want guru" in which every single post reaches excellent in mere minutes makes me think it happens. Even more so when I see someone being a **** in one of the ffxi forums (am I crazy or are ffxi'ers more prone to crankyness and abuse?) run away to there suddenly get their post count up by another 20 and a karma buffer, then come back to continue being a ****. Its like a little safety net for certain people..

May as well rename the oot to "spam by snobs only".

Which OOT are you lurking? If 3 months ago I was at 3.28 compared to my 3.20 now. Obviously that "+1 CJing" isn't happening in the OOT I've been posting in for the better part of 3 years.

We are mostly talking appearances here.

The Why of people looking down on it is they go in there and see some mundane spam and see it stamped excellent, which have been from only one rate. They then assume everybody circle jerks since said spam is tolerated. In reality only a few are abusing it and they likely won't last all that long.

So yeah, what piko said.

It does look more like chat room than a forum though.

Uh, did you remember to rate me up?

I posted in that ding thread and wrote what I did for the ironic value of it. I personally hate threads like that, and was simply pointing out the violence inherent in the system, or something.

Besides, I don't have to ***** for karma, I get rated up all the time because my every post drips with a special something awesome that everyone can get behind, like a congo line at a nude gay bar.

Anyway, don't use me as an example of what's wrong with karma. I started posting in the Asylum, notoriously the roughest forum on this site as far as a newb's karma goes, and that's where I got my nifty sage title, again, because I kick ***.

I love karma threads, by the way, there should be way more of them in this forum.

Yet another unspoken thing, we usually let birthday and ding threads slide. If they get insane spam wise though, then that crosses the line. It's generally "ok" for someone to celebrate, but once it starts turning into a 3 page rate orgy it has to get locked down.

This is not permission to celebrate your 150th post or your Unbirthday.
