What are the rules on rate-ups exactly?Follow

Know that now, didn't at the time 3 years ago. Mostly just surfed the SWG area for info, didn't post with it much(if at all), so it wasn't a big deal. Only bummer is I would have preferred the old name.

Mazra, you just don't get it, and I don't really see any way to explain it to you in a manner that you can comprehend. I guess I'll try 1 more time.

A. The asylum, whether they hate you or not, Has not been karma camping your new account. You have a grand total of 8191 non-"you" rateings on your account of all sorts. Out of those 8191, a grand total of 257 were issued by Asylumites. Period.

B. When your post count was merged from Qaoz, your ratigns for that entire period did not merge, so you got to artifically start over again with an estableshed post count.

c. The only reason you are a Scholar is because two people named "Tepetkhet" and "highRfrequenC" kamped the sh*t out of you. In the "up" direction. Between the two of them alone they added over 3,000 6.00 rates to your account. The rest of the OOT and the WoW forum seems to be split on whether you are a decent poster or an @#%^. We really should get someone to adjust that to be more accurate.

d. For all you keep saying "karma doesn't matter" and "I don't care about karma" you personally have the most karma related posts out of anyone on the entire site with the possible exception of myself and the other admins if you count all the replies to you and other people with karma questions.

E. If you don't like the asylum, stay the @#%^ out of the asylum. It is clearly labled.

Are you beginning to get the picture here?

With all this talk of karma here and in a thread in forum 10, several ideas have been tossed around, and I'd like to make a suggestion:

Change the current method of a new post being double rated with the posters average karma to them being single rated with their average, and then rated at 3.00.

The current system is very "first impression" and doesn't reflect changes in behavior. A poster can get guru in their first few posts, and then turn out to be a jerk later on at a point where it is very difficult to take that away.

Most users only rate down really bad posts, and leave everything else alone. If someone with bad karma from their first 15 posts then posts 1000 posts that don't get rated at all, I think the system should reflect in some way that while they may not be a great poster, they're not posting trash anymore. The 3.00 rate everytime they post would gradually bring them back up.

In the same vein. The 3.00 rate would make it difficult for a 10 post Guru to stay a Guru, and would require users to actually be consistant in making quality posts to keep high karma. Whereas, the current system lets them get their post count high and then stop giving a crap.

You forgot to mention when those 257 negative ratings were issued. If I only had 100 posts at the time it would've been one hell of a blow. And from what I remember, it was.

Bodhi found out and told people. I'm sure you remember the rest of the story. And just so we're clear, I'd love to have my postcount locked at 1 so that every single post would show the actual rating of that single post, not my overall rating +/- after-ratings.

The whole thing where people make 4,000 posts in the Asylum or the OOT and keep their Guru so they become sort of immune on the game boards is a joke. And before you go on about my postcount, read the above paragraph again.

I've made enemies and friends in both places, no doubt about it, but I didn't ask to be made a Scholar. I gained posts and it became harder for me to raise my overall rating. Had to tell people to lay off the (positive) karma camping because I got tired of seeing every single post of mine get rated up without apparent reason. I, for one, don't think ratings should be issued in the non-game related forums.

Thanks for telling me, though. I need to send both of them a Christmas card. Smiley: inlove

Oh, and for the record, they're split on whether I'm a @#%^ or an awesome poster, kthx.

First of all, including the topic karma in a post doesn't necessarily mean it's a rant. I wasn't aware that just talking about karma was considered no-no in your book (can you get me a copy of it, btw?). I write a lot about karma, yes. I think the system is downright stupid. You know my stance, I made that pretty clear, although in a slightly psychotic way, back when I was posting under the name Qaoz. The site is admin moderated anyways, so why use a system that is so easy to abuse? It's not like people get auto-banned when they reach sub-sub-sub-default (thank god, talk about abuse). Until then it's still moderated by you guys and so the karma system is just a funtoy.

Oh, I do my best, but what's stopping the Asylumites from going to other forums?

It's not clearly labeled, btw. In fact, the label is completely off:
No holds barred forum for deep OOT discourse. Not for the faint of heart.

It should be labeled:
Private forum for old-timers and seriously disturbed minds. Be aware that posting here might result in massive loss of karma rating. Anything the old-timers (including many of the admins) deem unworthy will be transferred to the lesser Out of Topic forum.

THAT would be a clear and precise label.

Now, stop pretending, Kao. Everyone knows you and I are like two chicks fighting over the same guy. We've never been buddies and we never will be. That doesn't mean I don't respect you and your position, but I'm not getting the same vibe from you. More than once have you brought up Qaoz in a conversation as a sort of punchline, probably hoping it would make me blush and give up. I don't exactly remember what I said back then and I hope I'll never find out, except I know I did some stupid stuff with some ratesocks and alternate accounts. But come on now, big guy, that was, what, two years ago?

Hell hath no fury like a woman scorn, but this is getting ridiculous. I did some stupid sh*t and you've done some stupid sh*t. I'm not mad at you because of it. It's the internet.

Is that admin thingy where you find out how many times someone has rated posts up/down or been rated up/down a quick and easy process?

If so, would any admin be kind enough to give me my stats? Please, Smiley: flowers

1298 ratings:

Down 594 times.
In the middle 23 times.
Up 668 times.
And you've been nuked 13 times (what have you been doing?).

First ever rating was on December 27, 2004 in an FFXI thread titled "help im a worm".

And the most recent one was at 4:44 a.m. this morning.

Is that all the ratings I've received as well as given to others? Or just those I've received? Cause I was mostly curious to find out how many up/down I've given to others. I always say that I pretty much never rate, so I was wondering how much of a hypocrite I am Smiley: grin

If I was ever accidentally given full admin powers, my first plan of action would be to crawl through each individual rating I've ever been given and take detailed notes. I'm sure I'd find a lot of interesting facts by browsing xXxGoOsExXx. I could waste days doing that, possibly even weeks when I moved onto other posters. Smiley: grin

My next plan of action would, of course, be to mess with all of the OOT members' post counts, status', karma ratings, titles and names. With extra special treatment for all da haterz.

Not to be a jerk Mazra, and sure, I've complained about Karma too but maybe you should consider posting at the 99% of forums without forum karma. I think they keep it on partly b/c it is part of what this whole forum is about.

Probably the majority of Cait Sith. They've been camping you and Buttercuup for a while now. BC deserves it since he's been rating down almost everyone that posts there. You just get it because you're you Smiley: laugh

Unless there's some fancy schmancy page I don't know about, it is NOT easy to get your stats. The way I do it is I get a page of all your ratings and paste it into Excel, sort by number, the count how many of each rating. You have to find and corner a bored admin.
