I know there were death knights in D&D before either WoW or FF. Remember that all fantasy games take things from others, even Final Fantasy...even WoW. I can't find any proof of this on the internets, but I think death knights were thought of back in medieval times' lore as knights who get killed and get revived by a lich as some evil servant (still looking for an actual story, but people in the medieval times weren't big on reading and writing).

WoW invented time travel?

So Back to the Future ripped off from them?

Logically, even D&D classes hail back to some sort of medieval lore; the problem is you have to draw a defining line at some point, because in D&D (especially as the game has progressed into 3.5 and upcoming 4.0 rulesets) there were several classes that you could consider a 'Dark/Death Knight'.

Since the core argument being made was 'lulz Blizzard copied Square' and vice versa, my earlier statement was only to clarify who, of the two, was the first one to implement the idea.

The concept of time travel has been around a long time. Back to the Future ripped off H. G. Wells and many other Science Fiction authors. There was nothing new or innovative in that story for movie, although it was a good movie.

There were two things that were new/innovative:

1) The flux capacitor;
2) Christopher Lloyd mispronouncing "gigawatts" as "jiggawatts".

But yeah, otherwise it wasn't all that original. Smiley: laugh

Dark Knight and Death knight can not be ripped off because they are a part of everything. It's like the science fiction world now; everything has been done- you're going to see repeats.

Neither FF or WoW should be allowed to claim first rights to the job, even though FF came out with Dark knight before WoW came out with Death Knights. Smiley: tongue

Hell, one can even say that WoWs Murlocks which look astonishingly similar to the sahagins used in FF1 (way before wow bish). FF does not have the right to claim first rights however, for myth wins that battle.

However, the blatent WoW ripoffs of chocobos from FF must not go unpunished! Mechanical or not!
