I think the kid deserves to have his account banned, at a minimum, and really I think if it's possible his parents should be contacted so they can deal with him as they see fit.

I mean, I stared at that picture for a good five minutes, and there was no cat in it. It also didn't have a funny, gramatically incorrect caption. Kids need to learn they can't falsely advertise.

If you'd like to see the picture I apparently tried to link. (Going with steps not links this time..) Google "Funny cat pictures" and choose the second link. Then scroll down until you get to a kitten saying "The voices are telling me to kill you."

I guess i'll use this post to apologize to those who saw whatever was brought up when the link was clicked. After I posted it I clicked on the link to make sure it was the right picture, and it showed the appropriate picture just fine to me. I guess the site checks your cookies and gives you some grotesque picture if you are linked directly to one of their pictures without having it in your cookies. []

I don't buy that explanation for even a second. There is precedent for posting disturbing pornographic images on this board, and the common practice is to ban the offender. I don't think this should be any different, lest a new precedent be set that with a high enough post count you can post whatever sick crap you want.

That's not what I mean.. Smiley: lol

The site checks your cache and if you haven't recently loaded their picture from the main site getting linked to the direct picture will give you that dusgusting.. whatever it was **** link. I had to go into firefox's options and clear my cache just to actually see the picture. :/

Wish I knew they did that before I tried to link the picture.

Yep, I see these two events in such a short timeframe as an attempt to get banned. I don't think it's any coincidence that he basically gets told by Illia that 70some posts of his are rate-down fodder and shortly thereafter he's posting links to graphic pornography.

Frankly, I can't believe he's still posting.

That's what it was?

I clicked the link and saw the girls arched back and quickly closed the window. I'm glad I didn't let the whole pic download.

Yeah, I vote for some sort of punishment.

Wow. Claims of an accident indeed.

Pissing on the floor when your drunk is an accident, 12k in posts and linking ****, not so much.

Has anyone else tried testing his "mistake"?

I did in my journal just now. I posted the link there on my main PC, and then clicked it from one of my others. It was an adorable kitty, no ****.

Exo cleared his cache and clicked the link again and the **** link came up, so seems like Deadgye is telling the truth.

Give Deadgye the benefit of the doubt, he has been here for a while and is a very informative poster in the ffxi main. BT, you should really lay off, Deadgye actually got 10k by posting positive helpful information in the ffxi main, compare this to the tripe I see you spew all over the OOT and Asylum on a daily basis.

PS: It was just hi2u, its not like its violent rape.

Don't worry.

I was the one who caught it and I'm more than aware of Deadgye's past on the site which is why I did not mute/ban on the spot after seeing that.

After PMing things became clearer.

But Deadgye you need to calm down with the clicking dude. . .

Without even having seen this thread in question, I have a feeling I know what happened.

This happened to me before when I linked an image I thought was humorous. When I tried clicking the actual link, something entirely different came up, not much different from the description offered in this thread. Fortunately I think I caught my mistake before anyone else saw it, and edited my post to link to a different version of the same picture on a different site, checked that link, and that was fine.

It's something some sites use to try to discourage people from linking to their images. IMO it's sneaky and bad practice, especially when the sites don't even give you any sort of warning saying "hey d00dz, my bandwidth sucks, please d/l the image and link it somewhere else if you want to show it to a forum, or I am going to rain apocalypse on you", but it's hard to expect much from random sites on the internet. It IS the internet after all.

It was correct to edit or nuke the post, but Deadgye shouldn't get into any trouble for this. Hell, for all we know, links that are fine today could get TUBGIRL'D or GOATSE'D tomorrow without our knowing. sh*t happens.

Okay, so that's exactly what I said earlier. I'd just like the rules fleshed out a bit more, then. I mean, how many thousand of posts does one need to make for this to be okay? Is 12k the magic number for posting what Deadgye did? Does that mean Joph can go on a tubgirl rampage? How about Hellboy? Should Usagi be allowed to link whatever he please with impunity?

I s'pose if you can believe it was an honest mistake it's acceptable. I think it's more likely that even if a site hosting lolcats images had such a malicious mechanism to prevent hotlinking in place Deadgye more than likely read about it on some other site and decided it would be funny to do here. You see, from my limited interaction with him this is the prediction of his behavior he's earned in my eyes.

And I don't spew tripe, I craft posts that are of such a high literary quality I should be charging for them. You, sir, have earned yourself a place on my list of people I will not be inviting to my Christmas party.

Should I send you some old fasion mithra **** in order to make up for it, or is Imperial the only admin who likes that type of stuff? :p

edit: If you were a ************ then you'd know the type of person I am BT. :p When I took my extended break from FFXI I started to post in the OoT and that's why most of my posts aren't that... well... let's just say they got worse.

Well fine, whatever.

I think we've all learned an important lesson today, though:

Exo is the poor dude who has to test the offensive images. I assume that position was vacated with Magi's exit.

Nah, has nothing to do with Vagi leaving. Most admins end up double checking a link just to make sure it's safe; depends on who catches it first. This time around, however, I volunteered to try to reproduce the error.

I know Dana is traumatized with an image that was worse than what I saw today. Let's just say; you don't wanna know.

That said, locking this thread since it's gunna end up with idle chatter since the matter is concluded.
