We're about to do a massive expansion of the site and are looking for people who want to work here. Feel free to point frends who might be interested to this thread. Here are the requirements for the job:

  • These are paid, part time positions. However, if the money is the most important thing to you, this is probably not for you. We want people who love this stuff and would probably do it for free, and consider the salary as a bonus.
  • You must be able to put in several hours a day on the site. When you do the work is flexible and up to your schedule. We're pretty good at working with you to make you comfortable on your time schedule, but absolutely require that you put in regular hours of work. If you are not going to have that type of free time available, please don't apply.
  • You must be 18 or older.
  • Programming experience is not required. The biggest requirement is the ability to write at an advanced level. It also helps to know some html and to have image editing skills. Since we are adding wiki content to all of our sites, knowledge of wiki editing is also extremely helpful
  • For game specific openings, you have to be playing that game (even if it is in beta) and really love it. We expect you to become an expert in whatever game you play and that whavever game you cover on our site will be your main MMO.
  • If you are a heavy forum poster, keep in mind that this gives you admin privileges, which does affect your ability to make some more controversial posts or to post flames. If this is important to you, you might not want to apply

  • Here are the openings we have right now.

    1. General Wiki Editor/Writer.
We are launching a new wiki. If you have ever started your own wiki, this is the position for you. This position will be adding general content to our wiki that covers all our games, such as guidelines, help files and more, and helping out on the individual game wikis where needed. The biggest requirements for this position are excellent writing skills and extensive experience with wikis. This position is our current top priority.

    2. Everquest Wiki Editor/Writer.

    3. Everquest 2 Wiki Editor/Writer

    4. FFXI Wiki Editor/Writer

    5. Warhammer Online CM (Content Manager).

    6. Pirates of the Burning Seas CM

    7. Tabula Rasa CM (This position is still under review. The position is only open if we definitely decide to do a site for this game)

    8. Age of Conan CM (This position is still under review. The position is only open if we definitely decide to do a site for this game)

    9. Hellgate Online CM (This position is still under review. The position is only open if we definitely decide to do a site for this game)

If you are interested in any of these positions, please e-mail me at allakhazam@allakhazam.com. This is a job application, so please treat it as such. Provide me with as much information about yourself as you can. Explain what games you play and how much you play them, how much time you can put in on the site and why you have that time available, what your experience and skills are and how they apply to the position (attach a resume if you have one), and anything else you think might be of value. Since your writing skill is very important for these positions, please attach copies or links to things you have written. The more you tell me about yourself and why you should be considered for the position, the more likely it is that you will get hired.

(Off topic replies in this thread will be nuked)

(Wasn't sure if this is the place to ask questions but)

Extensive writing skills...what exactly are you referring to when you mention that? That's all that I'm confused on, since I have a general idea, but wanted to make sure I'm clear on it before embarrassing myself.

I'm sure that your grammatical masterpiece pretty much disqualifies you. I wouldn't worry about it.

To keep on subject, when are you going to finalize the games you will be supporting?

I'd go for the EQ one, but I'm not what one would call an expert on EQ yet, and I don't have any examples of my writing to show.

I could be a general wiki editor, however, to give up my ability to be a moron and post nonsense in junk threads makes the decision so very difficult. Oddly enough, when I'm given responsibility and authority I am almost a total reversal of my projected poster persona. Oh, and I'm incredibly harsh toward insubordination. Hmmm.

    Dear Allakhazam,

I am very interested in applying for the FFXI writer position. So, right now I am gonna start gathering my resume and any material I may have available that pertains what this particular job may require of me. Expect my e-mail by Friday afternoon with quite some content in it.

I should have posted this comment in this thread rather than the other one but in any event...

Does the applicant have to reside in the US or can they live in a different country? I would like to confirm this please before forwarding over my application plus writing samples.

    Thanks!

If only this was a year later when I was out of college, I'd be all over it in a heartbeat.

    Maybe another day Smiley: frown

Alla, I do have a question regarding these positions. How many hours per day/week are we talking about, full 8 hours days?

Yeah why are you bothering to do a ffxi wiki when we already have wiki.ffxiclopedia.org?

You do not need to reside in the US to be hired. I know this without asking because ImperialNinja lives in the United Kingdom.

I'd like to add to the forum section a bit, going based on what I've been told over the years. The positions are for work on the site itself; forum moderation is considered to be a lower priority part of the job. Getting hired doesn't mean that you'll be hired to read and post in the forums all day. Please keep this in mind as well.

I know it maybe off topic, but the page I visit most at Alla isn't even an option in the tabs. Could it be possible to add an Anime Forum? That'd be way more popular than say multi-game forum or science fiction/fantasy...

I think you missed the point, the community already has one, and it's exceptionally well maintained. To create another one would be a fairly pointless exercise in redundancy IMHO. Unfortunately I don't think you'd attract that many people unless it offers something different than the existing Wiki, or the updates are so prompt and of such high quality that people have no choice but to use it. Just going on the track record of Alla for the past couple of years (no FL assault info. for example) I don't think the latter is going to be a reality, but I'm open to being surprised.
