Err... I clicked the links before I found out what was going on about these being troll posts linked to viruses, and as soon as I got a download prompt I immediately canceled since it looked suspicious... Am I safe or can I expect something bad to happen to my computer/FFXI soon? =(

Well, as long as you have an up-to-date virus scanner and did not run the files in question, you _should_ be safe. Although these types of files (ie. designer viruses) never make it into AV DAT files, it may contain other components that could be flagged.
Last time I checked, it was a self-decompressing executable, so I'm not sure what else it could contain. Just to be on the safe side, run a virus check, and make sure not to blindly click on links the next time around.

One of them is on the COR forums I believe. I clicked the link and got prompted to download and canceled it out. Gonna run a virus scan son just incase.

Same poster has a post on the Fenrir forum and another poster said the link had a trojan in it after being scanned.
