[FFXI] Jobs- DiscriptionsFollow

Hey guys, thanks for all the great contributions so far!

One thing, though, we'd really like to keep the descriptions of what a Job Ability , Job Trait, Spell is on the pages. It's easy to take for granted that we all know what those things are, but if someone was just researching the game that would be information that they potentially would like to have.

Thanks again, guys

Couldn't there be a link to a seperate page including that information instead of cluttering a job description page with it?

ie: ==Job Abilities==

Hmm... I just tested that out on the Puppetmaster page.

For whatever reason, when I try and link to the wiki, it adds an additional line of text/code into the article.

Dunno why either.... Is there a workaround?

Honestly, I think the job pages in general should just talk about the job itself in a textual way and provide links to the existing db lists we have in place. I'm talking about a written article about the job, it's role, what its like playing it, the difficulties one can encounter playing the job, paths to take, etc.

I'm really not trying to sound negative at all, I love the idea of alla ffxi wiki ... with that in mind...

I am not fond of keeping those general descriptions on the page. I find it makes the page look too busy. I also don't understand why there would be general descriptions on a page that is supposed to be about a specific job. I really like cattattacks idea.

As for simply linking spells/abilities/skills to the db that already exists, I found that simply too much information was wrong. Recasts and Time to cast information and sometimes even the spell description itself was lacking or plain incorrect.

Not trying to sound mean or overly critical. :)

There should be some sort of consolidated 'jobs' page or something with those texts on it. I agree.

Please don't be afraid to criticize things, that's the only way we're going to improve.

I guess it is handier to have all the info on one page, but that just seems to add to the clutter thing you brought up. We have to try and look at this from a newbie perspective and one or two sentences in each section isn't necessarily cluttering it up more than a big table.

This is what I did with the Samurai page. I kind of brought it upon myself to deal with this particular job, since it's what I consider my "main" job and it's where I'm most knowledgeable. The way I did it, the job abilities are listed on the "job" page under their "game description." I linked them to their individual pages where I went into more detail. (Listed detailed information, trait tiers, and equipment that enhanced abilities and traits in order of potency or relevancy.)

I thought the information on the main Samurai page was presented very well. I don't really see a reason to change it. Just my opinion, though.

PS: If I did anything wrong or whatever, could someone send me a PM about it? I wasn't really going by a template or anything, just making it up as I went along. Smiley: lol Figured having the information up and available was a little more important than the formatting, since I could go back and fix that later.

Edit: Here's an example of what I did to the job traits/abilities for the most part. This is the most "complete" one, I pretty much listed everything relevant. I haven't gotten around to finishing them all yet, I just did Store TP first since it's the most relevant Samurai job trait.

I think it looks good, though I did change the cellpadding on your tables so that it's a single line border. I've been meaning to go change that on every page, but haven't had time. If anyone feels like it, you just replace the first line of code with:

{| border="1" cellpadding="4" cellspacing="0" width=100%

Speaking of that, the generic weaponskill text on most of the job pages doesn't seem to line up with the information under it. The text describes what WSs are, but then the table just has the lvl75 skill caps for weapons (i.e. combat skills). I think that might just be because the WS lists haven't been put in, but for the moment it looks pretty odd.
