Which thread specifically?

There doesn't seem to be any other admins on right now. I think I may have found what looks to be some misuse of the karma system, but I'm not entirely sure how to interpret what I've found. Please pardon my newbness, I don't want to go throwing unwarranted NORATES and PMs around without double checking with someone who's been an admin longer than I have.

I've left a message of sorts for other admins asking them to check into this, and hopefully someone with more experience can give you an update soon. Sorry for the trouble.

Thanks Word and Nix. I was beginning to get a little annoyed at the constant rate-downs people in my thread and myself have been getting (just look at my first 3 posts in this thread ) I seem to have a knack for attracting unwanted people.

Rating someone down everytime you see a post of theirs because you don't like them is perfectly ok. Not everyone likes everyone else, and that's ok too.

Did Illia just say karma camping is good? I'm confused now...I thought karma camping is a no-no? Illia has gone to the dark side!!!

A while back, I gave the example of someone who'd managed to rack up some 2,000+ negative ratings against another poster. I said that while it showed dedication and obsession, it wasn't a bad thing.

In large part because the poster in question had a habit of saying things which provoked other people's emotions, including negative ones.

If someone says something you don't like, rate them down by all means. If they say enough things that you don't like; then I'd consider it a reasonable reaction to rate them down again, and again.

However, if you go hunting for their posts; that'd be kinda bad.

Isnt this what paladin is tryin to get to? He thinks ppl are following him because to about every rate up he gets it goes back down too.

That kind of sums it up. I'm not trying to make you look bad, because I realize what a tough predicament you are in. Kinda bad, but not officically bad, kinda wrong, but not officially wrong.

The karma system is merely a system in a program. Atm the regulations for it seem to be, for me at least, you can do whatever the program allows you to do. It's like a video game I guess, they throw you in, you are allowed to do anything within the confines of the system to try and win it.

Now, however, you have the unenviable task of people being asked to govern this basic program system ethically.

You have people that are jerks who get offended by a comment and become vindictive enough to rate down every single post you make.

Or, even worse, people that just rate down because then they look better in comparison. If other people are lower in ranking than them, that makes them look better. It's all relative.

You have people like yourself, who feel they are disadvantaged by this stupid practice, and demand some form of justice.

Then you have the poor guys in charge, who have to respond to people like yourself, who sympathise with you but can't start drawing lines in the sand.

The only real options as I see it are:

Judge it on a case by case basis which is impossible.

Just let the system govern it completely, which is pretty much what is going on atm. People like you just have to play the game.

Or implement some clearly defined rules and improve the system, god knows it needs it.

So I've probably just either sympathised with everyone or alienated myself from everyone lol, probably the latter T.T, sorry but that's the way I see it and I have to speak my mind.

Sorry admins, I really do understand what a tough, awkward, no win situation it would be for you guys (/comfort nixnot lol- edit= b/c he's new I mean, not trying to be rude). I would hate it.

It's like... hmmm... a judge who has to let someone off on a loophole maybe? 5 judges being asked to make verdicts when everything is very grey, and there are no clear governing lines to follow? Hell idk, normally I can think of good analogies.

I think the practice sux, I think the admins SHOULD do something about it, but I think they are in an impossible situation, so I'm going to leave it for now.
