I was trying to quote a post before it got edited and got this.
Quote:

Your message has met the filter designed to stop ultimately silly messages, hit the back button to edit it and repost.

Reason: Your message had a word that was too long

Are you serious? There's a limit to stupid *** filters, I think we just found it.

A word that's too long? O god that's just awesome. 1 point to silly filters!

Seriously though, why do you guys even have that filter? I can see maybe if someone created a huge *** word that they didn't bother spacing apart but there are some words in the English language that happen to be massive in length. I'll look it up once I get out of class.

Pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis is the longest word in the Dictionary. But the post I was trying to make was longer then that.

I'm not sure what even triggered it off.

What exactly where you trying to post?

Edit:

The thing is... there is no such thing as the longest word, because in the field of medicine and science they just add infinite number of pre- and su- fixes to a base and make a word as long as they want (Including your 45 letter example).

I'm sure not counting "combo words" like these, the true longest word is much smaller.

We limit word length to 250 characters, to prevent people creating posts which scroll the browser to the side 800 times a normal width.

I don't like the **** filter. I'm sick of saying "Richard Cheney" Unless I change a few letters around and break the filter--which is stupid b/c he's the vice president of the US and obviously the gentlest ears of Allakhazam might have heard his name on the evening news.

And poor **** Van ****.

Links are immune to the word length, but get shortened in display. or should be. but you have to post the whole link. (http: .. etc)

Testing other link oddities...

Edit: nope, the forward slash at the end used to break the post too, you guys must have fixed that at some point.

edit: Silly filter not active, link shrinking not working.

edit2: Since we seem to have figured this out I took out the link, since it was stretching the page.

Actually, in relation to this, the link shortening will actually shrink other parts of the sentence in some cases. If you don't use the URL tags(which I think looks better anyway, so it's not a big deal), then you sometimes run into it.

How about http://www.thisisnotareallink.uk.jp/thisisatest/really_long_filenema_inserted_just_for_testing_purposes_to_determine_the_exact_nature_of_the_url_length_filter/which_i_suspect_shortens_everything/except_the_domain_name.php?diditwork=yes_no_filenotfound

I suspect that the name shortening doesn't affect the domain name, just the rest of the url.

and preview confirms that.
