How many active users are ther on the forums?Follow

#1 Jan 07 2008 at 12:17 PM Rating: Sub-Default
I see more then 1 million members of this forums. This is of course not really the truth because banned accounts are not removed. So I guess its just a nice way to inflate your value for the advertising companies.

So my questions are.

How many banned accounts are among those 1,3 million members.
How many active members are the on the various forums?

Smiley: dubious

It would be impossible to know how many people use the site exactly, because there are always people who come here for information and do not create an account.

I, personally, am curious why you want to know, though.

Obviously he wants to know how many of the 1.3 million are active, so that he can know how much money he can actually expect to get by spamming them. Cause you know they have all those "What percent of people actually click our links" data in those spam companies. Duh.

Smiley: tinfoilhat

Like 1,3 million members is more impressive then 10000 for example.

You are confusing Allakhazam with Blizzard

If you go out to advertisers. And they ask you hey how many members are there on your forums. And you say 1,3 million its a little bit more impressive then 10000 don't you think....

If you go out to a bar, and tell the hot chick you make 350 grand a year, then take her home to your rent controlled hole in the wall for some action, I doubt you are gonna get any cause you're a poor loser.

So, just like the **** at the bar, who can tell you aren't pulling in 6 figures, the advertisers will know something is up when they aren't getting the appropriate proportional clicks/hits for the 1.3m users.

Anyone using Allakhazam's forums as an indicator of anything is a bonehead. Allakhazam.com is a major MMORPG information site and the bulk of its visitors, registered or guest, never even touch the forums. That's like tracking how many people visit the Sports Illustrated site based on how many have fantasy football leagues on SI.com

A better question would be how many unique visitors does Alla's get per day/week/month. Which I'm sure is information that Alla has but there's no reason to give it to you unless you're looking to buy ad space.

The funny thing is the number of "active" users is completely irrelevant to advertisers. They care about the number of viewers, which can be measured in much more accurate methods than "HEY WE HAVE OVER 9000 ACTIVE MEMBERS!"

You can get a brief overview of Allakhazam's traffic at Alexa.

Ranked #780. Not too shabby considering the size of the intrawebz.

One of the things to remember about Alexa is :

They only rank based on how many people have their toolbar thingie installed. =) It is by NO MEANS accurate to track popularity of sites!

True, but you have to figure it'd give a general idea unless there's reason to believe that Alexa toolbar users are less likely to visit this site than non-toolbar users.

In other words, it's better than nothing and might shut the OP up Smiley: grin

Regardless, unless Allakhazam pops in to share this info, it's really not something for public dissemination to my knowledge unless you plan to buy ad space or something.

You can always email one of the teams and we can forward it but we will not be providing it here unless I hear otherwise from a big boss. Sorry, you'll jsut have to live with the guesses like every other user of the site.

For numbers we give to advertisers, pretty much all of them aren't from us. We use industry accepted measurement sources (like but not limited to google anaylytics unique user number), and the advertisers use their own.

We could make up any number we like and put it in the "Users:" field there. It has absolutely nothing to do with advertising. That number reflects the number of accounts created across allakhazam.com. A certain percentage of them have never been logged into. Another percentage doesn't ever post to the forums, another percentage use the account for character related data, etc. The total number gets pruned every once in a while when we purge accounts which were created but not logged into.

As for the unique user #, which advertisers like. Most advertisers tell us we have more uniques than I think we do. But that's up to them, and their convoluted measurement systems.

Thought I'd translate that sentence to English. Btw, got to love the internet, everyone has a random beef. He's also telling kids to get off his lawn.
