WoW spoof emailFollow

#1 Jan 09 2008 at 12:50 PM Rating: Good
I already posted a previous email in the FFXI forums, but someone suggested I post it here since it is somewhat Alla related.

Ok, so I play FFXI. I do not now or have I ever played WoW and yet today I received an email that was supposedly from support@blizzard.com. It was a very official looking email claiming that I was receiving a "final warning" and that my WoW account was being suspended due to RMT activities.

I did not click on any links in the email, but I did go directly to the World of Warcraft site to report this email. After I contacted them, but I still have not heard back, I read the email address that this email was sent to. It was an email that was actually sent to my Allakhazam email which was then sent to me.

Very strange. Makes me wonder if this is a new RMT hacking strategy and if so they are now using the Allakhazam site to do it. Has anyone else had something like this happen to them? Just curious.

I already replie to the one in the FFXI forums, but just wanted to say I'm glad you're doing your best to warm people about this, hence the rate up. Have you also thought about posting it in the WoW forums ?

Perhaps all the Server Forums and the Job Forums while you're at it.

As has been said in the past, all the @allakhazam.com emails will forward to whatever your registered email is if you chose to use it. Chances are some RMT spent some time skimming the forums looking for public email addresses and your's just happened to be picked up since you do have it set as public. It's actually not that uncommon (in general) for spammers to go around the net looking for public email addresses to spam, so it stands to reason that RMT could easily do the same.

Hope that clears up some confusion on that.

As for the matter at hand, I certainly would suggest posting this on the WoW forums too, since this is probably more directed at them with the spoofing an "@blizzard.com" email then anything else.
