I keep pressing my red button, but it rates them up instead of down.
Any ideas as to why?

Yes, the karma updates as soon as you press it. But if someone else beat you to the punch, then it's going to update as what it actually is, which might be higher. Get it?

When you view a thread/post the karma score is at whatever it should be at that exact time. While you are reading/whatever people are rating and those ratings won't be viewed until you either refresh the page or rate up/down.
