Why is SnipURL filtered to CannotLinkTo?

Is there any way to use a URL-snipper link without having it filtered? Or will you allow more characters in the signatures? Just change it so the amount of lines is limited if you fear huge signatures. Or change it so I can put long links in my signature with the [link] tag without it counting as characters.

But most importantly, why is SnipURL being filtered? I couldn't find any shameless advertisement or money-making on the site.

SnipURL is probably filtered for the same reason TinyURL was. Goldspammers were using it to bypass the filters on their sites.

People were using it as redirects for keyloggers and such.

The keylogger issue was by far the more important reason behind the decision than the goldsellers. Some of the keyloggers are getting quite sophisticated in their delivery attempts. Hopping IP's on services that are hard for us to track, building up posts and karma before posting them, I saw one that was a 100 post sage. It boggles the mind.

The sig limit will not be increased. mostly because of people doing stupid things with the existing space. There were at one point plans to make link text either not count, or count less towards the limit. I am not sure what the status on those is.

I see.

Well, I understand the need to **** off keyloggers, I definitely do. Just a shame I can't have more than five links in my signature.

I even have my signature in [sm] tags. Smiley: frown

The tags aren't helping your signature length. You could have a whole... um, tenth of another link there! Smiley: laugh

I guess I'll just have to remove one of them. ePeen just shrunk a tad.

Actually, what I'd recommend at this point is just putting the URLs in your sig and not bothering with naming the links. Smiley: grin

Yes! Maybe even caps it! Smiley: clap

I'll be the envy of all the posters on the boards. All of them! And maybe NixNot will notice me more as well. Smiley: nod

Couldn't you just make a closed thread in your journal, then link to that?

You could then keep as many links in there that you would want.

It just wouldn't be the same. Not to mention only premium members have journals.
