I was perusing some item pages when I noticed that some posters seem to be putting pay-for-goldmaking tip pages in their sigs. For example:

http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=29434;page=1;howmany=50#m120244182738653608

http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/item.html?witem=29434;page=1;howmany=50#m1196962554158608603

Is this acceptable, or should we let you know when we come across them? They're not "goldselling" sites per se, but I personally frown upon someone trying to capitalise on tips and guides that are already, for the most part, free of charge on sites like Alla.

It's been banned before. Actually, I think that's why most RMT is banned, because of the anti-advertising policy.

I remember someone posting asking to ban someone for discussing RMT with a link, iirc(Aegis I think) and they were told it wasn't bannable unless it was advertising. And I know other advertising gets banned.

May have leapt to a conclusion there, though.

Edit: This thread.

the ban on rmt links is based on a ban on spam.

I don't give a hoot about someone linking to them if they're trying to talk about them rather than sell people sh*t they don't want. (since the distinction is very difficult to determine automagically, it results in a ban on links to them)

Aegis linking to various rmt sites isn't a product of him wanting to sell you gold. (Least I don't think so although I haven't reviewed every post he has) It's a product of some deep seeded bitterness, which I think he has a right to express.

Still not clear

Talking about RMT is not the same as promoting RMT. "Hey, I think RMT is evil because X, y Z" won't get you banned. "Hey, i think RMT is good because X. Y, and Z" won't get you banned though it will probably get you karma bombed. "Hey, buy gil/gol/plat/etc from xyz.com" will likely get you imploded.

Conversly, if someone were to post a link to their website advertising something legal and game related, as long as they didn't spam it, it would probably be left alone. Example, if someone made a new guild website hosting service that they wanted to post about, then that would be fine.

It's a fine line. Basically if you are annoying our users you will be shown the door. If its something worthwhile it will likely be allowed.
