Would it ever be a possibility Follow

To create a FFXI newbies forum . I know the general forum is intended to answer general questions, which would include the obvious newbie ones (How do I farm/pick a server/get a linkshell etc.

One thing I notice a lot is that people who ask these questions seem to automatically get rated to default or even sub default, purely for the crime of being new to the game, curious about the way to get the most from their playing experience, and not knowing of other places to look for advice (for example, wiki etc)

It seems a shame that people with a genuine interest in playing the game ask a simple question that would take all of five seconds to provide a brief but helpful answer too, and instead people waste time thinking of ways to insult them.

Everyone who plays FFXI was new once. Some of them have been playing for year, probably since before sites such as alla were as well developed as they are now. But I suspect the majority of the players have at least once asked one of these newbie questions themselves in the past - perhaps not on alla, but possibly in linkshell or otherwise.

It seems a shame that people who wish to join ffxi have their first interactions with the ffxi public being an insulting one.

Is there any chance at all of starting a specific forum for new player questions. That way all the people who forget they were once new players themselves can stop acting like asshats, and people who are looking for a little help and advice might actually get it :)

I'd be thinking about posting something along these lines too.

a game Help forum, which answers questions and ****, getting all the dead horse questions out of =10 and stopping the troll-defenders from guilt tripping those of us who are sick of the questions and can't take them seriously.

I'm sure other games' main discussion forums would like the idea too, that way we could discuss the game and such, instead of answering the same damn questions that people are to lazy to look up for themselves...

This comes up quite often, and it's solved by ignoring them. There's guides, FAQ's etc all over the place, all one has to do is LOOK.

I did a little experiment , and did a little googling myself, with the words 'FFXI Help'

I got : Weebls stuff forums link
Numerous RMT sites
Gamesites200.com (which has numerous links to RMT sites)
Sites containing bots, exploits and third party tools etc

Now, if I type in FFXI Forum, Alla is the first result up ... and the link takes you directly to the general discussion forum. Not to any guides (yes,we all know they are on the site , but way way down on the bottom left of the sidebar).

General discussion, to me , indicates general as meaning a wide variety of topic, including newer players questions.

Jintes reply makes a lot of sense to me - worded differently than I would have worded it , but yes it would



Genuine questions would have a chance of getting answered, trolls that like to post pretending to be new wont get the satisfaction of a rise, and, even better, the FFXI general forum would be largely more interesting to read.

Another option would simply be for the guides area to be more visible on the site - there are some excellent guides on the site, including several on the traditional newb questions of farming,levelling, questing, fame and other things. :)
