Wow.allakhazam UpdateFollow

i dont like the new layout/interface. one major think is it takes too long to load. i open a page and my mouse pointer starts flickering from the arrow to hourglass back and forth for like 10-20 seconds. any reason why it would be taking so long to load and not just have a solid hourglass while it was loading?
IE version 6.0.290.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254 windows xp home

is there still a backup version of the old site so that people can veiw it to recall what they miss from the old site? i was using this site from years ago on everquest and i liked it so i continued on wow. i think i might search for another information page now though...

More of a nit-picking issue, but if you are going to do something, it should be done right. Smiley: tongue

Yes, and I am aware of this. It has to do with the nested boxes that make the boxes in the right-hand column stay in the column. I have tweaked back and forth with margin, cellpadding, cellspacing, and all that stuff and cannot seem to get it to move up to match the main box on the left. :( /sigh

The only thing I can think of to do is put the left-hand box inside another invisible box tomatch the nesting on the right, but I am not really happy with that solution either.

We've done a pretty significant upgrade to wow.allakhazam.com. Graphically, and functionality wise much has changed.

Please post here with any feedback and/or bug reports, if something doesn't work the way you expect it to.

Um, yeah, I just about had a heart attack with the entire site change. I had no idea it was coming. The site looks great. My problem is that I can't get used to the new navigation and how things are laid out. I'm so used to the old site.

Where is the Beastiary lookup? I will echo previous post about the missing side menu. The new top dropdown structure is too confusing ... maybe I'll get used to it, but it's too much too fast (as previously posted)

If you're just looking for a mob by name, put the name into the search box in the upper right that shows up on every page and hit enter, and see the mobs tab on the result page. If you want a list of all mobs in a zone, view the zone page via the places menu, and look at the creatures tab.

First off, I haven't explored the entire new design, but here's a suggestion on what I have noticed...

When viewing quests and items, I noticed you list X amount, then have another page. Please give an option to have them all load on one page or a user set amount per page. The reason I request this, is because when I want quick quest info, I usually do a "find" command, to quickly search the page. Having quests/items listed on multiple pages, is kind of annoying.

I really like the change in colour.

The search button, in the upper right corner, while very elegant in it's graphics, is WAY too small. I only found it because I knew it HAD to be there somewhere.

I think a new user might totally overlook it.

I know you've done a lot of work on the update. Personally, I like the old format, but maybe I just need to get used to it. The biggest issue is that the page loads are very slow compared to the old format. Mostly, I use for quest searches. Sometimes, the page just doesn't load at all. Sometimes, it says the page is done but there is no details, only header information. Other times, it says "Opening Page...." forever and never does load the page.

I've always loved allakhazam better than any other site for quest details because of the start mob, end mob and quest chain info (used to just say previous and next quest - quest chain is a big improvement). Plus the comments seem to be much more relavent with coords in almost all quests, but if it takes a full minute for the page to load, it stops being useful.

After using the "Search database..." box in the upper right corner, the results screen includes a tab for "Recipies" rather than "Recipes."

I'm sure it's a quick fix. Thanks for everything!!!

can we make it so when you search for an enchant it easily gives you the enchant mats and who sells it/where it drops?

the key here is "easily".

When i search for mongoose, or executioner, or any enchant, i find the enchant but i have to follow a rather obscure link in the enchant description to actually find the mats.

also character profiles still are borked. >_>

I'm having a problem accessing guides, was following Ravennus' Horde Quest Guide with my blood elf and now can no longer find it through the site, but I know it must be here as I can access it through a Google search which seems a very long-winded way of doing it...

Also, in the wiki list there is a link to Ultimate list of guides but it continually aborts through Windows and doesn't let me view the contents.

I know Alla is really pushing the wikibase, and it's really been shaping up lately. I think there needs to be a more obvious link to it, because right now it's hidden in a mouseover menu.

Any search will (should) have a tab for wiki entries related to that search.

A couple of questions regarding things that have been removed, if they're still there I apologise however I have had a good look around.

1) Could we have a link back to the Site FAQ? Or are you planning on replacing that.

1a) Could we perhaps have a link to the new rules that Kaolian asked for input on a little while back, if there are rules in place they should be easily viewable by new and old members alike.

2) You have removed the "New Comments" section for posts in the item/quest/NPC etc database. While I can see there is a way to view updated entries in the Game Info section this only applies to the base text not the user made posts (?). From trawling around on the New Comments section prior to the change alot of new users post questions which I'm sure they'd like an answer to snd if they get it sooner rather than later they're more likely to stick around and make this their WoW home, good thing for Alla right? At the moment these posts may well go unanswered til someone else comes along to view that entry days, weeks or months later.

Anyway I like the rest of these new fangled things, keep up the good work and that and I'll ship you some kegs of beer at some point to keep you all well lubricated.
