Any chance we can get an Instances/Raids item under there? Sure it's in the regions/zones item but it'd be nice to have that broken out for easier navigation.

Thanks!

I was going to post the same thing.

Quickest way to get to raid zones is http://wow.allakhazam.com/wiki/Raiding_%28WoW%29 , but the links to some of the zones are off, I know I had to change the link to Hyjal when I did a once over of Hyjal and its boss encounters a couple days ago.

http://wow.allakhazam.com/wiki/Zones_and_Regions_%28WoW%29 is lacking in aesthetics and I spose I could fix it up but not sure if I would break it up alphabetically or just by zone alphabetically. That isn't even considering that some zones are misisng such as Zul'aman which I can't find but that might just be my eyes glazing over the poorly displayed info and missing it.

Yeah the formatting on that makes my head hurt.

Wouldn't that need to be 2 lines?

* whatever|Raid Instances
* whatever|Group Instances

Question: In WoW, is a 5-man zone considered a raid or a group instance?

Well yeah, that would be ideal but I didn't want to sounds grabby Smiley: grin

5-mans are always group instances. Anything more is a raid.

OK, then, just tell me the exact links y'all want Raid Instances and Group Instances to point to. My preference would be Category:Raid Instances and Category:Group Instances but those are not automatic tags so each zone would need to be edited to place them in the categories.

If those are the actual tags, I can just go through and insert them if you want. Seems a bit 6 of one half dozen of the other to list them and have you do it or just do it myself.

We actually do have a {{raid}} template that will auto-add it to Category:WoW Raids and a size category, such as Category:WoW 15-Man Raids.

{{Raid
|gameid|
level=
|roktier=
|mentor=
|size=
|minsize=
|rzone=
|quest=
|qreq=
|szone=
|winlock=
|faillock=
|persist=
|minguild=
|inum=
}}

Don't have one for group instances so you can just add {{Category:WoW Group Instances}} to it. (On THIS line, change the {{}} to square-brackets! :)

And, no, I have no way of adding them all auto-magically. :(

Obviously, the Raid template was built for EQ2. If you run into some info that os wow-specific and NEEDS to be there, let me know and I will add fields for it.

OK - couple of things:

1) Looks kinda funny. (Onyxia's Lair) Course maybe when there's text for the page it won't. Or it will become a headache for editors like the table of contents is :-)
2) Don't know how it works in EQ2, but often in WoW the attunements for the raids will have a different starting quest for them depending on faction (i.e. in the above example, Warlord's Command, picked up in the badlands is the Horde quest. The alliance start to the attunement is Dragonkin Menace picked up in Burning Steppes.)
3) None of this actually gets me where I wanted to be :-D

On the main wiki page, instead of having People and places look like this:
People and Places

* Zones and Regions
* People
* Events
* Travel

I'd want it to look like:

People and Places

* Zones and Regions
* Instances and Raids
* People
* Events
* Travel

Thanks!

We DO have a template for instances now...

{{Instanced|gameid
|inum=
|size=
|access=
|quest=
|qreq=
|szone=
|winlock=
|faillock=
|persist=
|map=
|brassemap=
|}}

Of course, as before, not all of those fields apply to WoW, but there it is.

Wow, apparently I fail at reading this thread. I HAVE checked the forum since this went up, I swear! (At least, according to the timestamp. I don't remember seeing this thread at all.)

What exactly do you want? A link to a list of instances and raids independent of the "Zones and Regions" article? I assume the "raiding" under Player Community isn't cutting it for you?

I apologize for aesthetics or link-types for anything older than April. A lot of my early work involved not having {{WoW zone:Hyjal Summit}} as an option, and so I ended up with URL links or thinking I was going to simply make a wiki page for the zone, etc.

Yeah the formatting on that makes my head hurt.

Any suggestions? I was rather proud of that page when I first made it, since it was one of my earlier experiences using tables in the wiki, but I admit it isn't the most beautiful snowflake.

Not really, no. Partly because sometimes I'm not looking up a raid, I want to look up an instance and the clumping together of the instances and zones in the Zones page is... less than ideal

And yes, I'd like:

People and Places

* Zones and Regions
* People
* Events
* Travel

To look like:

People and Places

* Zones and Regions
* Instances and Raids
* People
* Events
* Travel

No need to apologize. Honestly I think it's a shortcoming of the wiki options than of the page itself. The hardest thing for me is the border on the table but without the border that table us equally difficult to read, though not as painful to look at. (with the border it looks like some sort of trompe l’oeil or something and my eyes have a hard time focusing). The other thing is that I don't necessarily think that just clumping together the instances (alphabetically, even) with the zone names doesn't make a lot of sense to me (but maybe it's just me). When I'm looking for information about an instance I don't really care about the zone and, maybe to a lesser degree, vice versa.

As for the raids page... maybe if the things were in some sort of order: numerically by max raid size, alphabetically, by zone, something Smiley: grin. Yeah, I guess I could fix that and probably will but it amused me to mention it and isn't that what this is all about? My amusement?

No?

crap. Smiley: glare

I can play with that page some tomorrow. I'm pretty decent at table formatting now after the incessant hours on the alchemy stuff.
