What has become of the forumsFollow

I'm just a regular poster who spends most of his day reading the forums. I had posted this in the hunter forums: Haunted Hunter <<<< everyone read this. Now you all can understand why I feel about <> << that small. All I was wanting to find out is, if anyone was having the same problem with there hunter as I was with mine. Instead I get attacked for one...ONE misspelled word.

I remember reading a post from an admin asking that they not pick at people for there grammar. But nothings changed. If I had just an ounce of what some of the scholars and mages have. I'd spend almost all my time answering every question to the best of my knowledge and ability. People have misspelled words all the time. Instead of answering there question and trying to help that person better there wow experience they choose to attack that misspelled word.

There are alot of children that type on the forums asking for help. Some can't type as well as others. Big deal. Me I'm a 30 year old man who has some grammatical errors in my posts sometimes. One problem is I type to fast and others is that some people have a hard time spelling certain words. Like....apologize. I spelled it appolagise and I'm really sorry.

There are a few on here I'd like to give my thanks to for being such great people and helping me when I know they didn't have to. CamelToad, and Jeebar. Those 2 are awsome people. Anyone needs any help. Let them know. But come on guys. One word typed incorrectly and I get slammed for it. Its not just me. Some don't realise there being attacked while others do and I'm sick to death of it. If you don't want to help people and uphold your rank on the forums. Then move along and let those who are willing to help others and not act like they are gods do it. I spend 100% of my time on wow helping people. Passing along info I learn from these forums so that it may better there gaming. I get alot of thanks for that. But I don't brag. I just tell them to come here and check out all the goodies. Now I may have made a mistake. Thanks for listening.

Please link the post in question you made and I will take a look. unfortunatly, given the nature of forums, we are reactionary rather than proactive in alot of things so occasionally you will encounter the occasional unplesent individual in the forums. We also tolerate a bit more flaming and roughhousing in our forums than other boards might.
But before I comment on the issue, please send me the link so I can take a look and see what is going on.

Thank you,

Administrator Kaolian

Np here it is: http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/class.html?wclass=5;mid=1228193411310564463;page=1;howmany=50#m1228193411310564463

I understand you let some stuff go. Thats part of fun. But what goes on that I've seen I've had enough of. I just wish they knew what they had and how many people look up to them. You need more people like MentalToad and Jeebar on these forums and a lot less of Rinkell and yuppley. To tell someone if you can't correct your spelling I don't care about your feeling. Thats why I named this What has become of the forums. I know I'll get rated down so many times for this. But they rate me down anyways lol. Thanks again for listening

You may have noticed that my spelling ability has been described on occasion as both "subpar" and "legendarily bad" on occasion. We'll see if they want to play spelling **** with me...

I just wish that they would respect posters who are asking for help as much as they respect them. One wrong typing and all hell breaks loose. Before even replying to posters they slam them to fix there grammar before they answer there questions. I know you allow rough housing. Nothing wrong with a little fun :D. I wish I had an ounce of what they have and held a scholar rank. All I'd wanna do is help people better themselves with there wow gaming. :D Thanks for listening. You admins are here for a reason and I respect you all for it. On to read more forums. Oh dread lord. Just wanted to know were your 80 ranger is at. My fav class is any game that offers ranger's.

Just so you know, Scholar, Sage, Guru. They're all meaningless titles that people just get jollies off of having. Some people actually earn them by offering insightful information, but far too many have it because they ridicule others. I got my scholar for good posts, I got bumped to Sage for being an ***** Seriously, the titles are not what they seem, far too often.

I'm sure the idea behind it was that people who held these ranks were positive contributing members of Alla, but quite often, it's more about popularity and little about actual substance.

Honestly, I think you got the response you did not because of the spelling, but because of the first response someone made to your thread. No matter how innocent that response was, it set the tone for thread as a whole. Add in that most people are less than concerned about a graphical bug(things like that bother some people while not phasing others) and you have a "forumula"(intentionally spelled incorrectly for humor Smiley: tongue) for disaster. All that was needed was a trigger, which was provided by your spelling of a single word.

And things devolved. I've seen it happen dozens of times.

This response was technically correct, IMO.

We could put up with idiots who can't spell. However then we'd have more wut is teh bestest pet? questions and honestly if you don't want to take the time to properly type out your question then I don't want to take the time to try and not only understand what you're asking, but also think of an answer.

But they're applying it incorrectly. There's a big difference between making a couple small mistakes and truly lazy posting. The first should be tolerated/ignored while the second should not(again, in my opinion). We have a crusade against the latter every once in a while, but throughout the year some people take it too far(and sometimes mob mentality kicks in). It should be stamped out, but a delicate touch has to be applied. I really don't think we want to prevent people from being indignant about truly horrifically(sp? :P) lazy posts while at the same time focus

First of all, the error here made me laugh. I'm not gonna lie. It's "sages", not "mages", though since I'm a Saged Mage, I guess it's the same thing(guru pls kkthxbye Smiley: grin). As someone who spends the majority of their time on the boards answering questions and discussing the game, I can tell you that you don't have to be a scholar or higher to answer the questions people bring here. You only need a few simple things.

-Knowledge
Answer with the wrong information and you're not helping anyone.

-Patience
You'd be surprised how many frightfully stupid questions I get. And where I get them(people have made characters on my server in game to ask me questions...which is a practice I frown upon). But regardless of the question or how many times you've heard it, you have to be willing to take a little time to answer, though I usually direct people to contact me here when they contact me in game.

-Aloofness
I'm not sure how to word this one, but basically, you can't let others upset you(this is something you need to work on). Because someone will always try. It's the internet. It's the way it works. If you let them upset you, they win. Just ignore em and move on. Or you'll find yourself running to an admin each and every time someone says something you don't like. I can't imagine that'd be a fun existence, because it looks silly to me.

As always Poldaran your wist words seem calming yet to the point. I respect that. I've been on the forums for sometime and this is the first time I've ever brought something to the attention of an admin. There's not many things in this world that bother me. Lifes to short for that. One thing I liked hearing is Patience. My gf says I'm to patient sometimes lol. How can you be to patient. Anyways. Sorry for missphrasing mage with sage. >< My bad. I spend alot of hours just reading posts. Alot of it is jibberesh to me but still I'm learning. Only thing that really set me over the edge and again I don't know why is when someone said they don't care about your feelings. That really didn't upset me. That kinda hurt. But at the time I was dealing with the loss of my friend so I was kinda edgy.

I read alot of posts and see alot of typing errors in certain posts from people who flame others for it. That was my only point and I had my fill. Main point is no one is perfect :D except for maybe the man upstairs. I havn't attempted to make a sticky yet, but with the way I'm starting to enjoy and learn about the mage class I will try soon. I appreciate all the replies and tips. I'm not here to get anyone in trouble. Just a poster who wanted to be heard on a small problem that is over with now. I do enjoy some of the names of the ranks. The one were is says there is no other star. :D

While I agree the response to the thread indicated here was a bit harsh, I do want to point one thing out, as someone who's been around a lot of boards a bit:

Souliken wrote:

You've been posting around various classes since February or March of this year; that's a long time to be 'still learning'.

Your early posts were repeated inane or redundant questions that were either of the "what is the best pet" variety (the actual question varied by class), which were shot down, or when a question was asked that was returned with a generic answer because there isn't really a specific one (especially for a beginner player), you persisted in wanting particular information that nobody could provide, which annoyed several.

Whether consciously or not in the minds of the longtime posters in these class forums, this has garnered you a particular reputation, and thus those people are going to be predisposed toward you when dealing with matters of a generally inane nature, such as your thread regarding your axe bugging out (which, really, graphical glitches happen all the time, it's not really something to get worked up over :P)

So yeah, again, response was a little harsh, but your own history might be partly to blame.
