Dear lord, WHY are Google ads in the rotationFollow

I've got =10 currently open in a separate tab (won't be closing it for the time being so I can take a screenshot if needed)... and the banner ad is, unsurprisingly (considering the thread title), Google ads.

Unfortunately, guess who has the only ads that ever seem to come up when the Google ad service is passed "FFXI"? That's right, it's gil sellers. Several pages' worth of their ads. (Out of the first five pages' worth of four ads, 17 are gil sellers, one is Direct2Drive, and two are for other MMOs.)

I'd recommend just having Google ads removed from the possible rotation in all FFXI-related forums, because of this.

MDenham, please follow the instructions in http://www.allakhazam.com/forum.html?forum=3;mid=1207324744284516508;num=0;page=1 and I'll get them removed as soon as possible. That's exactly why we don't run google ads. We can't blacklist the RMT fast enough so it's just not worth our time to run them at all. It might not be until Monday when we can get rid of them, though. Weekend and all.

While I can understand MD's frustration, and getting the ads out of cycle is a good thing, I don't think what he's attempting to promote in =10 to spite RMT is good for the site as a whole or even of questionable legality given the predatory intent.

If it's worth admin intervention, have at it. If not, I'll shut up.

That thread was partly out of frustration, and partly because I was genuinely interested in what it was costing them at present.

And also partly because I still hold a grudge at them over the DDoS attacks earlier this year.

EDIT to Nizdaar: Also, the instructions in there are pretty well useless for the case of Google ads, because rather than a simple link, they're effectively their own page. It might be (I hope it's not necessary though) a good idea to mention that for these, people should right-click the blank part, choose Properties, and then copy the entire (very long) URL.

I understand where you're coming from MD, it's something that drives me nuts as well. I get emails, spam in game occasionally, they try to show up here etc. But it's probably best to not have that thread give people unhealthy ideas and whatnot.

If the site gets DDoSed in the future, can I have the thread unlocked and bumped as soon as the site's back up? :-D
