Is there no way you can change the site to only permit rating priveledges for users who post in the relevent thread? I notice a lot of threads recently which have been rated down fairly quickly within a very small time frame. It would not be a problem except your site tends to discriminate against posters who reach default status. Perhaps forcing these vultures to put their necks on the line will prevent them from caring so much what a thread says that they disagree so much with. Unless of course you value the opinion of a coward who is too afraid to post a viewpoint relevent to the topic and arbitrarily judges others by his own unstated view. I once asked the admins to eliminate the karma issue completely, you argued that it was not possible/did not want to/ps2 limitations, so here is middle ground. Please limit/restrict members from rating threads/posts unless they put themselves at risk for the same treatment.

I rated you down for this suggestion.

The Karma system is fine the way it is.

Edit: Your idea sucks anyway. I could've made a post like "I love your idea!!!1!!" and then rated you down anyway.

However 6 users have viewed this thread that didn't get rated down, Hamurabi is turning in his grave because that's 4 eyes I don't have removed from skulls right now.

So you want posters to get instantly rated down for viewing a thread?

#5REDACTED, Posted: Dec 13 2008 at 10:10 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I want posters who don't have a view stated excluded from making a judgement. They can view all they want but unless they state a view they have no rights to judge anybody. Mostly it's about accountability, if someone is willing to put themselves out there to be hammered on they deserve to see who is doing the beating.

Thats takes all the fun out of the internet Smiley: frown

I like being able to rate a person up/down without having to post anything.
Aside from quoting +1'ing something you liked, it's sometimes pointless to post if you like a particular post.
What if I see a Smiley: deadhorse topic? A malicious link? Something nobody will want to read?

On Allakhazam, the poster's serve as moderators to an extent.

Take voice away from the undeserving and all of the other issues that users complain about daily will become easier to fix. I could care less about your godcomplex issues those are for you to work out on your own. It seems every week there's a new thread about the Karma issue on every Allakazam forum you'd think the admins ears would sting whenever it's posted by now. They are in no hurry to fix it so why not nerf it SE style.

What you're suggestion means, is that anyone random spammer can post junk all over the forums, and we can't rate it to sub-d without posting in it and bumping it back to the top, thus bringing further attention to it and the possibility that someone might actually check the link provided.

Of course, then there's always just random stupid people who post too, that I think pretty much everyone can agree need to be sub-d, yet there's no real reason to post in the thread either.

The karma system is working correctly. It could use some tuneing, and we are working on things, but your request for a slashdot style system is not feasable with the way our database is currently set out. It can not be done even if we wanted to without major upgrades, and I don't think that is the best solution regardless.

If you see a thread you feel has unfair ratings, contact an administrator, we will investigate.

His request is for a system that's the exact opposite of Slashdot's, actually.

On Slashdot, you can't rate posts if you've posted in the article they're associated with, leading to occasional (hell, who am I kidding, more likely frequent) "posting as AC because I already modded this thread" comments.

If you worry about karma then you will always have issues with it.
Make good posts and try to not **** off people and you will be fine.
This is the advice that Pikko gave me long ago.
Just don't worry about Karma.

This. Also, try not being an idiot for once. Trust me, it may seem hard, but it helps!
