Make [pre] tags ignore all other markup enclosed withinFollow

#1 Jan 15 2009 at 8:52 PM Rating: Good
A minor thing but one I've seen functional on a number of other sites, and it always bugs me when I can't use it here to teach newbies to this forum how the markup tags work. The problem is it still tries to parse most if not all the tags, so if I'm trying to demonstrate the finer points of using quote or URL tags, I have to sub other bracket types, which tends to obfuscate things slightly.

It just seems logical to me that if I'm using pre tags then I'm kind of intentionally trying to discard markup, rather than it parse into a monotype :p

Please and thank you :D

Also I have pizza, donuts, cookies, and Bawls if anybody needs some...'motivation' on the subject >.>

I'd go for a separate tag from [pre] for this, personally. (You'd break a fair amount of existing stuff by making [pre] not parse any markup.)

I'd have to say you'd need an entire different set of tags for that, probably [code][/code] or something. Right now pre tags are used to organize stuff so that it lines up properly, and due to that it is put around large amounts of text, as seen here. If pre tags worked the way you want them to then I wouldn't be able to color code anything at all.

You know you can deselect 'Parse markup' in the post window?

Well, to be honest, no I didn't.

But it'd still be nice to use tags for just the parts I want to do that with so I can use formatting where I want to elsewhere if it's a long post. :P

I asked for something similar a while back for [code] tags but I don't think they were able to oblige.

color and bold (and such) within [pre] is really valuable for reporting parses.

Except if it were baby photos, it would be like looking at before and afters of Michael Jackson. Only instead of turning into a white guy, he changes into a chick!
