Couldn't new accounts require like 15 posts before being able to make their own threads? Or at least limit topic creation to like once an hour? It's not a perfect solution since they could just muck up existing threads, but I'd think it'd save on clean up a little.

I clicked on the second link on a mac I don't play FFXi on. It brought me to some website, like mncn(random letters).com, which was pretending to be a porntube-type site, complete with broken flash player links that needed to be "updated". First link was probably something similar.

First link takes to the same fake porno page. It's just the source code from some lesbian vid on tube8, but clicking on/near the video makes it attempt to download Fflashplayer.exe . None of the other links on the page work, except the ads.

I like the idea of limiting topic creation time - I can't really think of anyone that posts more than one meaningful topic in a hour really.

This particular one controlls at least 42 IP ranges. some of which appear to be in use by legitimate people. And as we add them to the IP ban list, they keep findign new IPs. rather pointless if you ask me since we inevitably ban them before anyone clicks on their crap. but oh well.
