Instead of an OOT and Asylum mergerFollow

Could we PLEASE have a 13 y.o. - 18 y.o. forum (or 13-21 forum) and a 18+ or 21+ forum?

One of the things that regulars of both the OOT and Asylum do is jump down the throats of a lot of newbie posters for their spelling and grammar... which seems pretty much mostly age dependent. They also jump down the throats of people who are seen as "stupid". Again I suspect that age is the most common factor with these posters who are seen as stupid.

Young people who have not highly formed ideas, or much general knowlege, or very clear thinking processes, or college grade English... all those things come with time, but they get blasted out of the existing OOT and Asylum in the mean-time.

I would envisage that adults would be a allowed to post in the teenage forum, but they'd have to stick to the PG 13+ rating, they'd have to stay away from adult content and breaking the swear-filter, and hopefully they'd be well outnumbered by the teens who could gang up on them if the adult pours condescending scorn on bad English, poorly thought out ideas or /whooshed jokes.

Hmm, not a bad idea. The only problem is that the poor English abusing children might not ever learn that it's just not a good idea to write the way that they do. I know for a fact that alot of them are aware of proper grammar and are just too lazy to use it. Some of them have said as much.

And as soon as they're old enough and want to move into the adult forum, they'll get the present lesson in the English standards the OOT/Asylum regulars demand around here.

In the mean time they can discover the joys of an OOT forum, without too many demands made on them.

They seem to, but considering fetuses pop out holding cellphones nowadays even the best English teacher can't make a dent to text messaging habits.

If you are 13 and cannot coherently express yourself on the internet, go take remedial English. I learned very quickly when I joined this site(around age 11/12, believe it or not) that spelling, grammar, punctuation, and clearly expressing thoughts was actually important. If anything, let the OoT go back to what it was. It never hurt me to get my throat jumped down by the regulars for being stupid, I deserved it. In fact, it helped me. Whatever, it's just my opinion, so take it as you will Smiley: lol.

We didn't do that til I was in middle school. Smiley: frown

Then I skipped a grade(in English and Math, anyway) and completely missed out on how to diagram certain parts of a sentence. If the day ever comes that survival of life on Earth depends on me diagramming a complex sentence, we might just be doomed.

DOOMED.
