So, couldn't you make it so new accounts had a "probation" period, before they could post links? Maybe post number and time?

Spammers would still post links in broken text, sure it wouldn't be hyperlinks, but it'd still be an incentive for them to spam ads.

I think a day waiting period before you could actually post would be much more effective at deterring advertisers, but it'd annoy legitimate users registering to post as well.

Ya, but the hyperlinks are what are dangerous.

And if they have to sit there and spam 50 posts before they can post an actual link, they'll get banned before anyone comes into harms way.

No. We don't need to create a barrier to entry for new posters just because of one spammer. As far as spamming goes, he's not all that bad. I keep banning the urls as he gets new ones. That costs him money and takes 30 seconds of my time.

I'm not too concerned about the spamming. That's not the issue.

And I'm not saying you guys are slow in banning and keeping the links handled. But even 5 minutes is long enough for some unknowing soul to click and become infected. It'd be a shield for those people.

I'm sure some of the posters in the FFXI and WoW forums are just kids that don't know better. I have some fairly young cousins that play WoW, and they are not very computer savvy, they just like WoW.

I'm not sure you're understanding what I'm saying.

Sure I may not be able to hyper link "www.google.com" but I can still post "www google com"

Yeah, but accidentally clicking on the plaintext doesn't have quite the drawbacks as hitting the links. Also, a broken-up link will appear more suspicious to the average websurfer who might otherwise uncannily click on a keylogger.

I do understand what you are saying.

But I cannot click on www google com and be loaded to a website. I have to copy paste and edit the site to a proper address.

And they're starting a third round with a less-obvious topic line.

EDIT: rather, they're just using that less-obvious topic line in =10. There is a third round of the dumb topic being used. Any chance of silly-filtering "todoay" and/or "marrid" as a topic?
