Is there a way to force a thumbnail? I have some pictures that are right under the cut-off line for thumbnails but I'd still rather them be thumbnails so that they don't make certain posts hugeliekxbox.

No, there isn't short of making the image large enough to auto thumbnail.

you could add invisible space to the image to make one of the dimensions greater than 600. That would likely force it to a thumbnail without changing the visual appearance of the image.

Ahah, that'll do it!

Also.. exactly what are the pixil requirements to thumbnail something. I have a 600px × 586px image that doesn't thumbnail itself. :/

Hey Usagi, it's over 600 for thumbnails, not 500. I routinely resize my images so that the largest dimension is 600 to avoid them turning to thumbs.
