Am I allowed to link to sites that have copyrighted materials for free (such as a torrent site) on them?

I'd like to know too.

Out of respect though, I usually keep links like that to PMs. And probably still would even if it weren't a violation of the rules.

Whether it is allowed or not, usually posting links to p2p of any sort opens the door for the holier than thou moral majority to pound their chests about how it's morally wrong to fileshare and how they'd never do anything so atrocious and how you're going to hell and blah blah blah.

It's really situational. Linking to a torrent site, assuming it doesn't have a bunch of **** ads on it, that contains legal content would be ok. Linking to something that contains downloads of pirated software and music would not be ok and we would probably remove the link. Our primary obligation is to prevent the site from being sued, so we would probably err on the side of caution in that case.
