A nice feature BG hasFollow

is the ability to edit your post for a few minutes after posting, without the "xxx edited this post" message showing up. It's nice because you can fix typos quickly without any message showing up. After 2-3 minutes you can't edit it without the message showing anymore.

I like this idea. I can't tell you how often I do insta-edits on posts. It would be nice to just pretend the edit never happened. Smiley: thumbsup

I'm not sure our current forum timer system will allow that without significant recodeing, but I'll ask. I'd rather err on the side of having an edit message than to give people a way to potentially ***** with other posters through manipulation of the time stamp system and the Time zone settings. Though if the time zone settings just alter the display and the base time is all in one format, that wouldn't really be an issue I suppose.

I've been on other forums that have this. Only it's like... a one minute timer. It's nice for typos or spelling errors that you catch as soon as you post it and read it.

Additional suggestion: Automatic or optional spellchecker.

EDIT: See? >.>

I would love this to death... only I usually catch all but 2-3 of my misspellings the first time around. It seems like I'm editing posts 2-3 times before they look right because I'm stupid... and then the next day I see another spelling error and I have to leave it.

EDIT: Had to comment on this:

Even with the built in spell checker in Firefox underlining stuff, I'm still horrible.

Spellcheck doesn't help if you're like me and post while multitasking, then accidentally type a completely wrong word that's spelled correctly :p

With some OOT threads, allowing much more than 10 seconds would be enough to really ***** with some people.

Or post in the wrong thread all together.

You mean like how we used to be able to fake the system into thinking posts were edited just by putting the little "edited by X at Y time" line at the end?

That was entertaining, especially when the edit time was given as being well before the post was actually made.

That's really easy to do when you're grabbing quotes from several different places to put in a single post.

Not to squash enthusiasm, but there is that nice little "Preview Message" feature here, where you can proofread it before you actually post. Thus eliminating the need to quickly edit for typos and such.

You know what's great? When you do exactly that, and then you still have misspellings that you either don't catch until later or that you see the moment after you press Post Message, but before it goes back to the thread.

We're all aware of the option to preview posts.

That's just silly. Post now, fix later. It works for Microsoft, it should work for us.

You're right, chluke's wrong. No one should have to take responsibility for their own stupidity.

Spelling? yes, links? no sadly.

I would suggest not displaying the edit notification if no more replies/comments have been added, once they are added it would work as it does currently.
