So that we can eventually deprecate the old image system, the one avatars used; we've changed how avatars work.

there should be no change for anyone's existing avatar, but if you want to change your avatar in the future, you'll need to upload it again - this time to your user images. The same stuff applies, 120x120 for a max size.

Well that sucks. So my avatars are gone? Like I have them saved anywhere else...

ETA: huh they're still there. Well I downloaded them all, so I can reupload them to Images.

Does this mean any image the right size from My Images can be used as an avatar?

Yes. All your images are still there too. Although there appears to be a bug relating to image uploads causing them to periodically fail.

Locking other threads to keep this at one. No ETA atm. You can upload .png and you can view your own images but no one else's. I will be back to update when I know something different.

I love this, thanks for the change. I am better able to resize pictures I want to use with the built in editting system. I was having to use MS Paint, and sometimes it ended up pixelated and horrid.

You guys rock!

For some reason my avatar did change without me doing anything. Instead of the normal business-suit wearing white devil avatar, it was replaced with some happy-faced anime girl... Not that I have anything against anime, I just feel that happy-faced anime girls may mislead people regarding the content of my posts.

I was messing with the new avatar upload system and think I've changed it back to an older avatar of mine, but I can't figure out how to get my white devil back Smiley: frown

EDIT: apparently the transparency in my old avatar was removed to, and replaced with a white background.

So, out of curiosity, how does this work with animated avatars now? We can't upload animated images to embed in posts, can we?
