It has always bothered me that clicking on the arrow to go to the last page of the thread or any specific page number does not mark a thread as read. It seems very counter intuitive to me. When I'm following a long discussion I simply click to the last page because I've already read everything on the first few pages. Once I've read all the new posts on the latest page I've "read" the thread. The only way to mark a thread as read is to click on the title hyperlink, which takes you to the first page--which you've already read.

Being slightly obsessive-compulsive, I usually end up clicking on all the text hyperlinks of long threads after I've read the last page simply to mark the thread.

It's a trivial issue to be sure, but I feel the system would make more sense if clicking any link to the thread from the thread list would mark the thread as read whether it be the title, the page number, or the last page arrow.

Last time I asked about the "marked as read" Kao told me it was handled by your browser and cookie settings, not the site.

The small arrow URL TirithRR speaks of, and the thread name URL, are different URLs. So your web browser will not recognize them as being one in the same. I have seen on other forums a feature that would allow you to mark EVERYTHING as read, thus allowing you to keep on top of all new posts starting from that point on rather than trying to mark every stinking URL as read by actually clicking on them individually.

When I click on one new thread, and come back, it marks them all as read. After this long of doing it, I pretty much do a photographic memory scan of the page before I do any clicking. I guess I am used to it by now.

For me, when I'm at work using IE, the red arrow marks a thread as "read," but at home using FireFox, it doesn't. Also, if a thread has multiple pages, it won't show as "read" until I've looked at each page. Not that I do that every time, but I've noticed that's the only thing that fixes it.

This all holds true for the FFXI, EQ2, and WoW style sheets.
