Since it is not uncommon with people feeling hurt that admins "deleted" their posts each time a new member get their post rated to sub-default, it would be a good idea to set the default settings on this forum to never filter.

If someone for some reason do not want to read sub-default posts, they can always change this on their own. I'm sure that if someone feels the need to filter something, they'll find the option. But I doubt as many people look for the filter setting when their post disappears, since many other forums simply delete posts.

Not like it is a big deal, but you'll have less members that are upset for nothing. And it seems like a site would value to have their members happy.

Well that's an interesting argument but if they did that then the posts that this community deemed not so good but not bad enough to be deleted would then be seen by everyone who visits the site. That would apply to gold sellers etc too before the admins got round to dealing with them.

There are some people who get sub-defaulted and think they've been deleted but really why are we worrying about upsetting people whose posts have been viewed as so bad they needed sub-defaulting anyway?

It's that kind of elitist attitude that's ruining this website, Coco. I'm ashamed of you.

Ashamed.

Posts that are rated down enough to be negative won't show either way. Lowering the default filter setting a bit wouldn't change that, anyway.

Before posting in any forum, it is a good idea to be familiar with the way things work.

Some posters do end up in the situation you describe, but the default filter weeds out a lot of content that could be a problem -- particularly for new posters. Such content includes: RMT, bad advice, clumsy trolls and other things.

Posters who ask if an admin nuked their post are usually told how the filters work, often in fairly polite language.

The risk of bad content gaining an undeserved protection would seem to outweigh the risk of a new poster getting their feelings hurt.

I'd pay if they got rid of the stupid rating system all together. I'm not going to pay to have my posts rated to oblivion just cause someone doesn't bother to read and comprehend something they don't understand or agree with and not provide any insights to why they disagree or think something else would be a better idea.

That's interesting. I rated you down, but I'm not sure what you're getting at here, and I don't have any opinions on how your problem could be made better.

Tha'ts the problem, you really cant fix it unless you can get people to break the sheep/mob mentality and educate people to the point where they can string together sentences to say why the disagree without resorting to name calling or red arrow clicking.

The only other option is to disable it completely or change the default settings so that a post that still contains valid information isn't hidden from view because its not exactly what the sheep want to hear.

Perhaps if a person own sub defaulted or nuked posts still appeared to them, just not to everyone else, it would alleviate the problem a bit.

Mellowy makes a good point (this will probably be the only time I ever type that sentence). Setting the filter to sub-d by default instead of default would go a long way to help avoid confusion on the part of the newbs.

As a side note, it amuses me that windexy thinks he's more intelligent than everyone else here.
