My honest feedback:

Stop wasting resources on stupid **** that no one is going to use. And doesn't provide anything that your consumer base is dying to get. FFS Jeff, figure out the mission statement for Zam, for each website individually and then move in a direction that is consistent with the the guiding principles. Wowhead (yes a Zam property) is top of the class because it sticks to one thing and does it awesomely. I can't for the life of me understand what Zam.com is trying to become and additions like this further confuse users. And don't fall back on the "community". It's not a gamer facebook, it's not a Gamespot, it's not a Wowhead, and it's certainly not a Barnes and Noble support group.

If you're desperate for revenue, you'd be better off near a freeway off-ramp. Best of luck.

If you failed to notice, there are forums for books and movies here, so there are people interested in this feature.

Forums which receive far less traffic than most of the gaming forums on this site. The existence of a forum is not de facto evidence that this "ZAM Books" idea is worthwhile.

Well, let's see:

- There's a WoW add-on already
- Everquest's database is linked directly with this one
- There's an entire separate site for FreeRealms patterned to look and feel like the real site
- Most of the other mini-sites aren't heavily trafficked at all, and normally have their own hosted forums where people tend to post

They've also added image posting in recent memory. Do you have some other suggestion for them to add, because, you know this is the suggestions forum. Feel free to add yours if there's some feature you want or some broken item you've found.

Also feel free to understand that this site isn't yours, and that if the developers of the site want to cater more to an audience that is happy for the attention and not a pack of sniveling, whining children who seem to exist only to **** and moan about every tiny thing they dislike and question decisions that literally have zero impact on your day-to-day usage of the mini-site of your choice.

Sorry, I forgot that somehow I'm not allowed to tell the developers they're wasting their time, in a thread specifically design for feedback on this feature. Just because neither you nor I can think of new ideas to make this site attractive, doesn't mean that every feature attainable has been dealt with. Especially when we know there's a backlog of known site issues to deal with, yet they roll out crap like a bookshelf.. on a site for MMO gaming.

Oh, you are allowed. But please keep it civil. feedback does not need to be positive, but it does need to be delivered in a manner that is not overtly hostile and generally dismissive. If you have concerns, voice them. If you have ideas for work on other sections of the site, make a new thread and list them in detail. The Devs, like most of the staff, do not play every game, and often times there are nuances of games that escape people unless you play. We rely on customer feedback to correct those nuances when we miss the mark.

But if you just start flaming everything in the feedback forum, not only will we generally not listen to your feedback, having dismissed you as a troll, you may find yourself taking an indefinite enforced vacation.

Voice your concerns in a respectful manner and we will return that respect by giving those concerns all due consideration. I'm reasonably certain that if someone came to your workplace and started calling your work "crap" that you would be slightly miffed.

I recently discovered this feature by complete accident. After looking around, it is kinda cool to be able to pick out some of my favorite books and share my rating and reviews with other users.

While "cool" however, I do feel that it is 90% completely out of place for a site "dedicated to gaming". Sure, I suppose users could share books about gaming perhaps but... it's really unnecessary. Interesting, but doesn't sync with the overall site (at present.)

If this is an attempt to branch out more, then go for it. Would like to see how this feature could potentially lead to something greater for the site. However, if this was all that was planned then cut it and focus on making something as good as this site is/was even better - strengthen the core and any weaknesses the site may be lacking instead of something far off in left field.

Only in my humble opinion though, of course.

Sorry, I should have been more specific. The execution was spot on, the direction and the idea is crap. And if that miffs the boss man, I'd ask that he wears his big boy panties to work more often.

I'd be remiss not to express my opinion that the idea is waste of time and money and "no one" (except the 3 people who visit the book and movie forum that has no direct link, thanks paw) will use it. My feedback for the feedback forum.

What browser, what screen resolution, please?

Thanks!

Er, I've only tried it using IE7, I haven't tried at home yet.

And I have no idea how to check my resolution. I suck.

I didn't know this exsisted until now. Bless whoever came up with the idea though.

I wonder if it would be possible to change the order of the sections on the ZAM Books tab of my profile view screen in the future. I have been making favorite lists based what series the books are from, if they are single novels, or if they are a collection, so I'd love to have that at the top of the screen where it would actually be noticeable, followed by the link to my wishlist. Also, is there any way to adjust the order of your favorites folders? The system just seems to place them at random when they are made. I see you can adjust the order of books inside the folders, so I guess a similar system might work for the folder list.

Is there a way to get the system to add a picture of a book cover? I've written a review for The Atlas of the Land: A Complete Guide to the Strange and Magical Land of Stephen R. Donaldson's Chronicles of Thomas Covenant, but there's no cover picture. The amazon link on the title takes me to a page with a picture of the cover though.

What factors determine people's scores on the "Users Like Me" tab? how many stars you gave on a review, if you recommend something, or is it just having a book on your favorites list?

I think that rating a book shouldn't be linked to your reviews list unless you actually wrote a review. Also, while it's probably not possible since the system is pulling book info from Amazon listings, would there be a way to combine pages for all of the same book? That way all the ratings and reviews for that title (regardless of printing) would be together.

I believe it's just having it on your list.

I was also wondering if the "(1 Reviews!)" thing next to the stars could actually link you to a page with the reviews on it. Of course, that would mean changing it from just rating it to writing a review.

Users like me is a composite of about five or six factors :)

Which are?
#48REDACTED, Posted: Sep 23 2009 at 9:52 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) It seems a bit too evenly weighted. I mean, I haven't used the feature, so it could be that it works well as is; but I would expect that two users having favorite books in common should be more closely matched than two users who have simply read the same books.
